In response, Governor Greg Abbott called an urgent special session to address these issues.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">\n\t<script>  \n\t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \n\t<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>The special session began at 9 p.m. on Monday and focused on border security and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-crenshaw-headlines-n-h-gop-fundraiser-denies-rumors-about-run-for-white-house-2024\/\" title=\"Rep. Crenshaw headlines N.H. GOP fundraiser, denies rumors about run for White House 2024\">property tax relief<\/a>. Governor Abbott stated that there are still \u201cmany critical items that must be passed\u201d and that this will necessitate several other special sessions.<\/p>\n<h3>Lowering Property Taxes a Priority<\/h3>\n<p>Republican legislators had prioritized lowering property taxes for Texas homeowners and business owners with a significant portion of the state\u2019s budget surplus. However, they were unable to come to an agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must cut property taxes,\u201d Abbott said in a statement. \u201cDuring the regular session, we added $17.6 billion to cut property taxes. However, the legislature could not agree on how to allocate funds to accomplish this goal. Texans want and need a path towards eliminating property taxes. The best way to do that is to direct property tax reduction dollars to cut school property tax rates.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe goal of the first special session will be to reduce property tax rates solely by reducing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gov-abbott-calls-special-session-to-address-taxes-and-border-issues\/\" title=\"Abbott calls special session for tax and border matters.\">school district maximum compressed tax rate<\/a> in order to provide lasting property-tax relief.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Texas governor is requesting that the $12.3 billion set aside for additional tax cuts be transferred to school districts so that they can reduce their tax rate.
