It is a bad deal.<\/p>\n<footer>Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas)<\/footer>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"video_fit_container\">\n\t\t<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"671\" height=\"377\" class=\"video_frame\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/t7A6rXOg7nA?wmode=transparent&#038;wmode=opaque\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\t<\/div>\n<p>For months, Republicans have pushed for a \u201cresponsible\u201d increase to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-blame-extreme-republicans-for-debt-limit-deadlock-as-gop-demands-accountability\/\" title=\"Dems blame GOP for debt limit deadlock, demand accountability.\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/43-senate-republicans-say-no-to-increasing-debt-limit-without-substantive-spending-cuts\/\" title=\"43 GOP Senators Reject Raising Debt Limit Without Spending Cuts.\">federal borrowing cap<\/a>\u2014<\/a>currently set at $31.4 trillion\u2014that is coupled with future spending cuts. Democrats, on the other hand, have demanded a \u201cclean\u201d increase free of any budget cuts.<\/p>\n<p>Officially dubbed the \u201cFiscal Responsibility Act,\u201d the 99-page deal (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.house.gov\/billsthisweek\/20230529\/BILLS-118hrPIH-fiscalresponsibility.pdf\">pdf<\/a>) reached over the weekend would suspend the federal borrowing cap until January 2025 to prevent imminent default.<\/p>\n<p>But while McCarthy and Biden have touted the bill as a compromise, Roy and his fellow Freedom Caucus members held Tuesday that the deal gives Republicans \u201cnothing in return\u201d for the $4 trillion it would ultimately add to the national debt.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>At the end of the day, the only person that would default in this town is Joe Biden unless Republicans default on the American dream by voting for this bad bill. That is why this group will oppose it\u2014we will continue to fight it today, tomorrow\u2014and no matter what happens, there is going to be a reckoning about what just occurred unless we stop this bill by tomorrow.<\/p>\n<footer>Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas)<\/footer>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><strong>A \u2018Blank Check\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The McCarthy-Biden deal would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-freedom-caucus-vows-reckoning-if-gop-passes-debt-limit-deal\/\" title=\"Freedom Caucus threatens GOP with 'reckoning' over debt limit deal.\">increase total defense spending<\/a> by about 3 percent to $886 billion while also capping non<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/conservatives-rally-against-1-5-trillion-omnibus-spending-bill\/\" title=\"Conservatives Rally Against .5 Trillion Omnibus Spending Bill\">-defense discretionary spending<\/a>, excluding veterans\u2019 benefits, for fiscal year 2024 at $637 billion, representing a $1 billion decrease year-over-year. In 2025, that total would increase by 1 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Other provisions include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The repurposing of $10 billion of IRS appropriations in both fiscal years 2024 and 2025<\/li>\n<li>Stricter work requirements to receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program<\/li>\n<li>Permitting reform for energy projects<\/li>\n<li>A claw-back of roughly $28 billion in unspent COVID-19 relief funds, excluding those related to veterans\u2019 medical care, housing assistance, vaccine development, and the Indian Health Service<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, the Republicans noted that the concessions Biden agreed to fall far short of those they passed in the Limit, Save, Grow Act\u2014particularly given the fact that the bill does not specify a new debt ceiling.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Tomorrow\u2019s bill hands Biden a blank check as it doesn\u2019t actually set a debt limit. This is an unlimited debt increase, allowing him to spend as much money as he wants through the end of his term.<\/p>\n<footer>Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.)<\/footer>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite McCarthy\u2019s touting of budget cuts in the bill, Boebert asserted that those cuts were so small that they amounted to \u201cessentially nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn short, tomorrow\u2019s bill is a bunch of fake news and fake talking points that will do nothing to rein in out-of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/earmark-porkfest-in-omnibus-bill-demonstrates-washington-corruption\/\" title=\"Earmark Porkfest In Omnibus Bill Demonstrates Washington Corruption\">-control federal spending<\/a>,\u201d she said. \u201cIf every Republican voted the way that they campaigned, they would vote against tomorrow\u2019s bad deal because this is the very thing that we all campaigned to put an end to.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The House Freedom Caucus warns of a &#8220;reckoning&#8221; if Republican colleagues support the debt limit deal made by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Joe Biden.
