This news has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-actor-ilan-srulovicz-battles-against-intolerant-hollywood\/\" title=\"How Actor Ilan Srulovicz Battles Against Intolerant Hollywood\">sparked important conversations<\/a> about mental health across the nation.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px; text-align: center;\">\n        <script>\n          googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });\n        <\/script>\n      <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<p>The Carter Center released a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cartercenter.org\/news\/pr\/2023\/statement-on-rosalynn-carters-health.html\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a> which announced her diagnosis, saying that \u201cshe continues to live happily at home with her husband.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe Carter family is sharing that former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has dementia,\u201d the statement read. \u201cShe continues to live happily at home with her husband, enjoying spring in Plains and visits with loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The statement went on to recognize Carter\u2019s advocacy for mental health \u201cmore than half a century ago,\u201d and that in sharing the news about Carter\u2019s diagnosis it helped to \u201cincrease important conversations\u201d across the nation.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe recognize, as she did more than half a century ago,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cThat stigma is often a barrier that keeps individuals and their families from seeking and getting much-needed support. We hope sharing our family\u2019s news will increase important conversations at kitchen tables and in doctor\u2019s offices around the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Carter\u2019s husband, former President Jimmy Carter, 98, has been in hospice care since February following a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jimmy-carter-enters-hospice-care\/\" title=\"Jimmy Carter Enters Hospice Care\">short hospital stays<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Carters, who got married in 1946, are the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-flotus-rosalynn-carter-diagnosed-with-dementia\/\" title=\"Rosalynn Carter, ex-First Lady, has dementia.\">longest-married presidential couple<\/a> in United States history. Notably, Jimmy Carter is the oldest living former president and the longest-lived former president in U.S. history as well. The couple had founded the Carter Center in Georgia in 1982 after Carter had lost the reelection to Ronald Reagan.<\/p>\n<p>Jason Carter, the couple\u2019s grandson, spoke about them at an event in Norcross, Georgia last week, which was held to honor the former president.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re coming to the end,\u201d their grandson said. \u201cHe\u2019s going to be 99 in October, but right now, it\u2019s sort of the perfect way for them to spend these last days together at home in Plains.
