On Monday, the House delivered the articles of impeachment to the state Senate. To be convicted in the state Senate, a two-thirds majority will have to vote in favor. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R-TX) will preside over those proceedings as judge.<\/p>\n<h3>What 2024 GOP Candidates Have Said on Tax Policy<\/h3>\n<p>Paxton&#8217;s office previously said of the impeachment proceedings, &#8220;The TX House\u2019s impeachment was based on totally false claims. After an internal investigation, the OAG retained an outside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flashback-former-ag-barr-initiated-spying-program-on-americans-back-in-1992\/\" title=\"FLASHBACK: Former AG Barr Initiated Spying Program on Americans Back in 1992\">law firm<\/a> to further investigate, which culminated in a report. The OAG offered it to the House, but they refused.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Dade Phelan selected five Democrats and seven Republicans to serve as representatives in the impeachment trial. The GOP-led General Investigating Committee unanimously backed 20 articles of impeachment against Paxton, levying an array of accusations of wrongdoing against him. This includes accusations that he gave a political donor who bribed him favorable treatment, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgia-gop-governor-rips-mlb-for-caving-to-cancel-culture-says-president-biden-is-lying-about-voting-reform-bill\/\" title=\"Georgia GOP Governor Rips MLB For \u2018Caving To Cancel Culture,\u2019 Says President Biden Is \u2018Lying\u2019 About Voting Reform Bill\">made false statements<\/a>, obstructed justice, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Paxton is also facing a federal investigation against him. He has adamantly denied wrongdoing and pointed to a report from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-backtracks-on-demand-for-trump-appointed-prosecutor-to-resign\/\" title=\"Biden Backtracks on Demand for Trump-Appointed Prosecutor to Resign\">private law firm<\/a> &#8220;finding no violations of the law or agency procedure.&#8221; Several prominent Republicans have recoiled at the proceedings against him, including former President Donald Trump and Sen.
