Ron DeSantis (R-Fl.) in a new interview.<\/p>\n<p>Appearing on &#8220;Fox &#038; Friends&#8221; on Memorial Day, the 2024 presidential candidate was asked about the potential fracture in the Republican Party following the White House and GOP leadership approving the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which some critics have dubbed the &#8220;Fiscal Irresponsibility Act.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Prior to this deal, our country was careening towards bankruptcy,&#8221; DeSantis said. &#8220;And after this deal, our country will still be careening towards bankruptcy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He noted that adding $4 trillion to the national debt over the next 18 months is an extension of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/arsonist-taking-credit-for-containing-a-fire-gop-senators-blast-biden-admin-for-claiming-5-8-trillion-budget-is-fiscally-responsible\/\" title=\"\u2018Arsonist Taking Credit For Containing A Fire\u2019: GOP Senators Blast Biden Admin For Claiming .8 Trillion Budget Is Fiscally Responsible\">pandemic-era spending<\/a>, and the federal government is &#8220;sticking with that&#8221; level of COVID spending. The deal, DeSantis said, is &#8220;totally inadequate&#8221; to bring the budget into a better position.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They do these cycles to just get them through the next election,&#8221; he added. &#8220;And that&#8217;s ultimately one of the reasons why they continue to fail.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The governor stated that the $1.2 trillion Florida economy maintains large budget surpluses with one of the country&#8217;s lowest debt per capita rates.<\/p>\n<p>In the last fiscal year, Florida posted a record $21.8 billion surplus and reduced its debt by $1.3 billion, with a revenue increase of about 17 percent.<\/p>\n<h2>More Fiscal Conservative Backlash<\/h2>\n<p>There has been growing backlash from members of the GOP caucus surrounding the details of McCarthy&#8217;s plan.<\/p>\n<h3>What Critics Are Saying<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) slammed the &#8220;fake conservatives&#8221; who have agreed to &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/conservative-house-republicans-threaten-to-sink-biden-mccarthy-deal-were-going-to-try\/\" title=\"GOP House members may block Biden-McCarthy agreement: 'We'll attempt it'\">fake spending cuts<\/a>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.) labeled the deal the &#8220;Fiscal Irresponsibility Act.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Justin Amash, a former Libertarian Congressman from Michigan, described it on Twitter as &#8220;the ultimate kick-the-can-down-the-road agreement.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) has taken to social media to lambast the deal, calling the &#8220;promise of future spending cuts fake.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Mitt Romney celebrated the deal, writing in a statement that it &#8220;represents a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-still-careening-towards-bankruptcy-after-debt-ceiling-deal-says-desantis\/\" title=\"DeSantis claims US is heading towards bankruptcy despite debt ceiling deal.\">good-faith bipartisan compromise<\/a>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Despite the mixed reactions, DeSantis remains firm in his belief that the US is headed towards financial ruin.
