In a recent interview with Today, Legge expressed her belief that auto racing is the only sport where men and women are on equal terms.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If somebody asked me to bench press as much as a guy, that&#8217;s just not gonna happen, but driving a racecar for 500 miles&#8230;I think I got it,&#8221; Legge confidently stated.<\/p>\n<p>At 42 years old, Legge is returning to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the third time since her debut in the 500 back in 2013. As the only female racer, the pressure is on, but Legge is determined to make her mark.<\/p>\n<h3>Breaking Barriers and Inspiring Women Everywhere<\/h3>\n<p>Legge&#8217;s presence at the Indy 500 is not only a testament to her skill and determination but also a symbol of progress for women in sports. &#8220;Ten years ago, mostly all the fans were guys,&#8221; she noted. &#8220;This time around, you see almost 50% women, and it&#8217;s been incredible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As a mother, Legge is also aware of the impact her achievements can have on future generations. &#8220;They come up to you, and they say, &#8216;You&#8217;re racing for every woman out here,&#8217; and when my daughter grows up, she knows she can be anything that she wants to be.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Legge is not the first woman to compete in the Indy 500, but she has already made history by setting a record for the fastest female qualifying lap.
