Megyn Takes Her To Court.\">-time champion<\/a> has never felt more unprepared for a race than he does heading into Sunday night\u2019s Coca-Cola 600.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cA couple hours (testing) in Phoenix is the only comparable oval experience I\u2019ve had,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cWe had 30 to 40 laps in a simulator and that\u2019s been it. I want to survive the first stage (Sunday) and go from there.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Retired from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/retired-nascar-legend-returning-to-the-track\/\" title=\"NASCAR Legend Comes Out of Retirement\">full-time stock car racing<\/a> in 2020, Johnson is participating in select marquee Cup races this year for Legacy Motor Club, which he co-owns. He\u2019s also racing on other circuits, including next month\u2019s 24 hours of Le Mans, as he works to bring more name recognition to his brand.<\/p>\n<p>However, this means he\u2019s had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-battle-for-donbas-will-be-a-tough-fight-for-ukraine\/\" title=\"The Battle for Donbas Will Be a Tough Fight for Ukraine\">limited experience<\/a> in the NextGen car, which debuted in 2022. Johnson ran the Daytona 500 and at Circuit of the Americas this year in the No. 84 Chevrolet, but hasn\u2019t competed at a 1.5-mile oval like Charlotte Motor Speedway. With rain threatening to wipe out practice and qualifying Saturday, Johnson could be stepping into the car cold when the race begins Sunday night, leaving him a bit unsettled.<\/p>\n<h3>Modest Expectations<\/h3>\n<p>Despite his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-lincoln-project-founder-slams-recklessly-stupid-neo-nazi-cosplay-stunt\/\" title=\"WATCH: Lincoln Project Founder Slams \u2018Recklessly Stupid\u2019 Neo-Nazi Cosplay Stunt\">impressive track record<\/a>, Johnson\u2019s expectations for the Coca-Cola 600 are modest.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cA top 10 or top 15 would be an awesome finish for us,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Johnson is \u201cexcited, invigorated and exhausted\u201d since joining Maurice Gallagher last year as co-owner of Legacy Motor Club, the team formerly known as Petty GMS Motorsports. However, on the track, it\u2019s been a rough season for the team. Full-time drivers Erik Jones and Noah Gragson are 25th and 32nd in Cup points, and neither has a top-five finish this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a massive effort on our hands to figure out many ways to improve. I\u2019m proud of everything going on. I can\u2019t ask for more effort from everyone involved. We just need more consistency,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n<h3>Looking Ahead<\/h3>\n<p>The rain, which is forecast to continue throughout the weekend, also threatens to put a damper on Johnson\u2019s plans to fly to Paris next week to begin preparations for his latest racing adventure at Le Mans, another of his coveted global marquee events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s feeling very real,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cI\u2019m very excited for the opportunity. I honestly don\u2019t know what to expect. Right now, it\u2019s great excitement and curiosity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Le Mans, Johnson plans to return home to continue building Legacy\u2019s foundation, which will transition to Toyota cars next season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been an exciting adventure that I\u2019ve embarked on here,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cIt\u2019s exciting to be in this new element.
