This unprecedented move was supported by a 121-23 vote, with two <a title=\"House passes contraceptive rights bill\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-passes-contraceptive-rights-bill\/\">members voting present<\/a>. As a result, Paxton has been temporarily suspended from his office and now awaits trial in the Senate.<\/p>\n<h3>What are the Allegations?<\/h3>\n<p>Paxton faced a total of 20 articles of impeachment, including violating the state\u2019s whistleblower law, entering into a settlement agreement with whistleblowers that provides for payment of the settlement from public funds, violating the Securities Act, and other activities. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23825282-hr02377i\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">articles<\/a> were filed after a lengthy investigation into Paxton&#8217;s conduct.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fun Fact:<\/strong> According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/05\/27\/texas-ag-ken-paxton-impeached\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axios<\/a>, Paxton is only the third state official in Texas history to be impeached, following a former governor in 1917 and a judge in 1975.<\/p>\n<h3>Paxton&#8217;s Response<\/h3>\n<p>Following the impeachment, Paxton took to Twitter to express his disappointment, claiming that the impeachment is &#8220;illegal, unethical, and profoundly unjust.&#8221; However, many Texans disagree with his statement and support the House&#8217;s decision.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I am beyond grateful to have the support of millions of Texans who recognize that what we just witnessed is illegal, unethical, and profoundly unjust. As part of its investigation, the committee has subpoenaed Paxton\u2019s office for records. Four former employees of the <a title=\"FNC's Dean: MSM Coverage of Cuomo Was 'Puff Pieces' While 'There Were Bodybags Piling up'\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fncs-dean-msm-coverage-of-cuomo-was-puff-pieces-while-there-were-bodybags-piling-up\/\">attorney general\u2019<\/a>s office brought the suit in 2020, claiming they were retaliated against after accusing Paxton of corruption.
