Greg Abbott to appoint someone else as Texas\u2019s top lawyer in the interim.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3386442\" style=\"width: 5036px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2020\/06\/12\/Trump-waves-1200x800.jpg\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2020\/06\/12\/Trump-waves-1200x800.jpg\" alt=\"President Donald Trump waves upon arrival, alongside Attorney General of Texas Ken Paxton (L) in Dallas, Texas, on June 11, 2020.\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a><br \/>\n\t<\/figure>\n<p>Paxton is one of the GOP\u2019s most prominent legal combatants, who in 2020 asked the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-ag-ken-paxton-impeached-by-gop-controlled-state-house\/\" title=\"GOP-led State House impeaches Texas AG Ken Paxton.\">significant election integrity case related<\/a> to the presidential race between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Trump denounced the impeachment attempt right before the Texas vote.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHopefully Republicans in the Texas House will agree that this is a very unfair process that should not be allowed to happen or proceed\u2014I will fight you if it does,\u201d he said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-this-average-american-is-voting-for-donald-trump\/\" title=\"Why This Average American Is Voting for Donald Trump\">social media post<\/a> within half an hour before the state House was set to vote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>The 20 Articles of Impeachment<\/h2>\n<p>The 20 articles of impeachment include allegations of bribery and abuse of public trust.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas House alleged that Paxton improperly issued legal opinions to benefit real estate developer Nate Paul, and fired whistleblower staffers.<\/p>\n<p>Bribery charges stem from Paul allegedly employing a woman with whom Paxton had an affair in exchange for legal help and Paul allegedly paying for renovations to Paxton\u2019s home. Other charges date back to Paxton\u2019s pending 2015 felony<\/p>\n<h3>Paxton Denounces Impeachment<\/h3>\n<p>Paxton denounced the impeachment as \u201cnever meant to be fair or just\u201d and was \u201cpolitically motivated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/san-clemente-councilor-sues-city-to-get-public-records\/\" title=\"San Clemente Councilor Sues City to Get Public Records\">quick resolution<\/a> in the Texas Senate, where I have full confidence the process will be fair and just,\u201d he said in a statement.<\/p>\n<h3>What Happens Next?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Paxton is suspended from office immediately.<\/li>\n<li>A trial will be held in the state Senate.<\/li>\n<li>Gov.
