She told police Anders started posting \u201caggressive videos\u201d on the business\u2019 Facebook page after she placed a \u201csafe place\u201d sticker on the window, and quoted Anders as saying, \u201cpeople like you should burn in hell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also included as a witness in the report is Shannon Hix, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arkansasonline.com\/news\/2021\/jun\/13\/batesville-pride-event-encourages-diversity-accept\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">founder<\/a> of \u201cBatesville PRIDE,\u201d an LGBT organization in the city.<\/p>\n<p>The preaching and subsequent police response took place less than a week before Hix\u2019s group\u2019s annual \u201cPRIDEfest\u201d was set to begin.<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p>While saying his nightly prayers that same evening, Anders was visited by officers from the Batesville Police Department, who informed him of the decision and ordered him not to return to the business.<\/p>\n<p>Although Anders said he never returned to Stella\u2019s, the issue appears to have been quickly escalated by authorities without his knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>On June 7, a day after the police report was initially filed, a Batesville police investigator signed a probable cause affidavit for Anders\u2019 actions in front of Stella\u2019s and social media posts made by the street preacher, calling the business \u201cgay pride supporters\u201d and \u201chomosexual enablers.\u201d An arrest warrant was filed three days later, claiming there were reasonable grounds for believing Anders committed misdemeanor harassment.<\/p>\n<p>For nearly a year, Anders continued with his life and mission, unaware he was wanted by police.<\/p>\n<p>While driving to work on April 20, Anders was blindsided. The street preacher was pulled over and arrested on the outstanding harassment warrant. He was kept in jail for over 24 hours and now faces a June 14 court date.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately for Anders, a member of a major Christian organization has taken up his case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything that they accused him of doing is protected speech and expression under the First Amendment,\u201d Bob Ballinger, director of law and policy at the National Association of Christian Lawmakers, told The Western Journal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is nothing that he\u2019s done that is not protected speech.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It looks like Ballinger is right when it comes to the case against Anders.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a good reason the Founding Fathers didn\u2019t put a litmus test in the First Amendment for what constitutes \u201callowed\u201d speech and religion. Giving government the power to determine whether speech is made with or without \u201cgood cause\u201d creates problems that our nation\u2019s founders understood all too well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the city feels like he\u2019s small and that he\u2019s insignificant and that he is a pest \u2026 and his life [doesn\u2019t] matter that much,\u201d Ballinger said. \u201cThey\u2019re willing to crush his rights because he\u2019s a nuisance to the wrong people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fundamentally immoral,\u201d he continued, \u201cnot to mention unconstitutional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, Anders is not being pawned off on a public defender hungry for a plea deal.
