If successful, Paxton would be immediately removed from his post.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/texas-attorney-general-ken-paxton-impeachment-articles-3d2ed180564d8c52cf4cd643a073e3a6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associated Press<\/a>, 20 articles of impeachment have been filed against Paxton. The allegations against the Republican include attempting to interfere in foreclosure lawsuits, issuing legal opinions to benefit a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-donors-back-efforts-to-recall-calif-gov-newsom\/\" title=\"Trump donors back efforts to recall Calif. Gov. Newsom\">real estate developer<\/a>, and obstructing whistleblowers in his office. Paxton also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-ag-may-be-impeached-immediately-state-house-set-to-vote-after-republicans-turn-on-him\/\" title=\"Texas AG faces impeachment as State House prepares to vote following Republican backlash.\">faces bribery charges<\/a>, alleging that he had a deal with the developer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/green-activist-tied-to-top-dems-cant-account-for-millions-given-to-her-bail-fund\/\" title=\"Green Activist Tied To Top Dems Can\u2019t Account For Millions Given To Her Bail Fund\">provide legal assistance<\/a> in exchange for hiring a woman with whom Paxton allegedly had an affair and paying for work done at Paxton\u2019s home.<\/p>\n<p>Paxton has denied any wrongdoing and claims that lawmakers have no right to impeach him. He believes that his re-election was the root of the uprising against him, saying his opponents \u201cbecame very disturbed when I won and they concocted this plan \u2013 I think months and months ago, maybe right after my reelection \u2013 thinking that the voters just were not smart enough to figure this out. They\u2019re going to fix it.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">NEW: Impeachment of Texas AG Ken Paxton will begin tomorrow at 1pm, per memo to all members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot over-emphasize the fact that, but for Paxton\u2019s own request for a taxpayer-funded settlement\u2026Paxton would not be facing impeachment.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kh01DVMZti\">https:\/\/t.co\/kh01DVMZti<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/txlege?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#txlege<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Lauren McGaughy  (@lmcgaughy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lmcgaughy\/status\/1662164703915671582?\">May 26, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, a <a href=\"https:\/\/static.texastribune.org\/media\/files\/37dfc32e8a9ab6db4c41061aabae51d4\/GI%20Impeachment%20Memo.pdf?_ga=2.45039907.622419033.1685128316-656188253.1685128316\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">memo<\/a> from the House General Investigating Committee says that action is needed because of Paxton\u2019s \u201clong-standing pattern of abuse of office and public trust.\u201d The memo noted that the catalyst for the probe that led to the vote was Paxton himself, when he asked the House to approve a $3.3 million settlement with whistleblowers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut for Paxton\u2019s own request for a taxpayer-funded settlement over his wrongful conduct, Paxton would not be facing impeachment,\u201d the investigative committee wrote in the memo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be negligent is just one thing,\u201d Donna Cameron, who was hired to investigate Paxton, said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kut.org\/politics\/2023-05-24\/investigation-reveals-years-long-alleged-misconduct-by-texas-attorney-general-ken-paxton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KUT-FM<\/a>. \u201cBut malfeasance is when you are actively and intentionally doing things to the detriment of the office and to your oath and to the responsibility that you have to the state of Texas and the public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite Paxton&#8217;s claims that the process of impeachment has been flawed, the state\u2019s rules for impeachment require immediate removal from office if the articles of impeachment are approved by the House, even before the trial that would follow in the Senate.<\/p>\n<h3>Is the Impeachment a Piece of Political Theater?<\/h3>\n<p>Some claim that the impeachment is a piece of political theater.
