[VIDEO]\">school board<\/a> for allegedly forcing their children to read \u201cPride\u201d themed books without parental knowledge.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Three couples from different religious backgrounds filed a <a href=\"https:\/\/becketnewsite.s3.amazonaws.com\/20230524130022\/Complaint-in-Mahmoud-v.-McKnight.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsuit<\/a> against the Montgomery County Board of Education, claiming that the board violated their parental rights. The lawsuit comes after the school board compiled a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1J0TsuuWckSvLucXh_xxl28X7eD0EkHzZjR6eXLBqOR4\/edit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">list<\/a> of 13 new \u201cLGBTQ-inclusive\u201d books and informed parents that they could no longer opt their children out of the curriculum.<\/p>\n<h3>Violation of State Law and School Board Policy<\/h3>\n<p>The parents\u2019 lawsuit argues that the board\u2019s new LGBT book list and the lack of opt-out options violates a <a href=\"https:\/\/mgaleg.maryland.gov\/2022RS\/bills\/hb\/hb0618f.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state law<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-video-loudoun-student-confronts-principal-over-mask-mandate-why-are-you-segregating-us\/\" title=\"EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Loudoun Student Confronts Principal Over Mask Mandate: \u2018Why Are You Segregating Us?\u2019\">requires school boards<\/a> to notify parents beforehand about any curriculum material related to \u201csexuality\u201d and allow them to \u201cwithdraw the child from the course or lesson.\u201d The Maryland law states that parents may \u201cobject to instructional material and other materials, \u2026 if the objection is based on beliefs regarding morality, religion, philosophy, any fundamental value system deemed important by a parent, or the belief that the materials are harmful.\u201d The lawsuit also claims that the board violated one of its own policies.<\/p>\n<h3>Books on the &#8220;Pride&#8221; List<\/h3>\n<p>One of the books on the \u201cPride\u201d list is titled \u201cLove, Violet\u201d and is meant for children as young as kindergarten. The book is about girls falling in love with other girls. Another book is titled \u201cBorn Ready: The True Story of a Boy Named Penelope,\u201d also aimed at children as young as kindergarten, and teaches children that a girl may actually be a boy. \u201cPride Puppy,\u201d aimed at ages three to five, serves as an \u201cintroduction to Pride parades for the youngest readers,\u201d according to Publishers Weekly. The lawsuit also claims that the \u201cPride\u201d books invites children as young as three to look for images of an \u201cintersex flag,\u201d a \u201cdrag king,\u201d a \u201cdrag queen,\u201d \u201cleather,\u201d \u201cunderwear,\u201d and a picture of \u201cLGBTQ activist and sex worker, Marsha P. Johnson.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Parents&#8217; Right to Opt-Out<\/h3>\n<p>The six parents are Muslim, Catholic, and Orthodox Christian and are being represented by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/six-maryland-parents-sue-school-board-for-forcing-kids-to-read-pride-books\/\" title=\"6 Maryland parents sue school board for making kids read 'Pride' books.\">conservative law firm focused<\/a> on religious freedom.
