The rule puts the ball on the receiving team\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-cowboys-season-ends-in-the-most-cowboys-way-ever\/\" title=\"WATCH: Cowboys Season Ends in the Most Cowboys Way Ever\">25-yard line<\/a> if there is a fair catch on a free kick anywhere between the 25-yard line and the goal line. The move is an attempt to reduce injuries, but some in the NFL argue that it will do the opposite.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The NFL just passed a rule (for one season) that if a fair catch is made on a kickoff anywhere between the 25-yard line and the goal line, the ensuing drive will start at the 25. The reason for change? Player safety. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JTIgkc7ptO\">pic.twitter.com\/JTIgkc7ptO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Steve Wyche (@wyche89) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wyche89\/status\/1661032573403889665?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 23, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Kansas City Chiefs\u2019 Andy Reid and Baltimore Ravens\u2019 John Harbaugh are among the coaches who have spoken out against the rule, with Reid arguing that it\u2019s going to turn the game into \u201cflag football.\u201d Harbaugh, a former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/week-three-college-football-recap-top-10-teams-survive\/\" title=\"Week Three College Football Recap: Top 10 Teams Survive\">special teams<\/a> coach, said that the rule will create more high-speed head trauma than not having it in there.<\/p>\n<p>Lions coach Dan Campbell called the rule \u201chighly frustrating\u201d and expressed concern that it will continue to take away from the game. Meanwhile, Super Bowl-winning champion Chiefs player Travis Kelce called the rule \u201cabsolutely stupid\u201d and said that it\u2019s making the game more boring.<\/p>\n<h3>Player Reactions<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Travis Kelce: \u201cI don\u2019t think this is making the game safer. I think it\u2019s making it more boring. And taking a lot of excitement out of the game\u2019s opening play.
