According to a recent poll by Emerson College, former President Donald Trump leads in Iowa with a titanic 62 percent of Republican support. In comparison, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is widely considered the only Republican with a serious chance of dethroning Trump, has only 20 percent support, less than a third of Trump\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>The poll was conducted between May 19 and 22, before DeSantis\u2019 Wednesday announcement of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-dismisses-carter-page-lawsuit-against-fbi-despite-deeply-troubling-surveillance\/\" title=\"Judge Dismisses Carter Page Lawsuit Against FBI Despite \u2018Deeply Troubling\u2019 Surveillance\">formal presidential campaign<\/a>. The results suggest that DeSantis has a long way to go in making the primary a competitive race.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">DeSantis, despite last night, is the most serious rival to Trump for the GOP nomination.<\/p>\n<p>But let\u2019s not gloss over that he is a LONG way behind.<\/p>\n<p>New poll out of Iowa this morning from the reputable <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EmersonPolling?\">@EmersonPolling<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Trump 62, DeSantis 20 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PSYrpkvLjb\">pic.twitter.com\/PSYrpkvLjb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Niall Stanage (@NiallStanage) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NiallStanage\/status\/1661692951196585986?\">May 25, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Trump also has a handy lead over President Joe Biden in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-gets-great-news-from-early-gop-primary-state-day-after-desantis-jumps-in-race\/\" title=\"DeSantis' Entry Boosts Trump in Early GOP Primary State.\">tentative general election match-<\/a>up. Trump leads his own successor 49 percent to 38 percent in the poll, while DeSantis leads Biden in another match-up by 45 percent to 38 percent.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s worth noting that the poll surveyed 1,064 registered voters and has a margin of error of 2.9 percent.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Poll Results<\/h3>\n<p>A handful of alternate Republicans combine for less than 20 percent of support in the survey. On the other side of the partisan spectrum, Biden has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/china-teases-biden-for-sending-officials-to-taiwan-during-mike-pompeo-visit\/\" title=\"China Teases Biden for Sending Officials to Taiwan During Mike Pompeo Visit\">rock-solid support<\/a> of 69 percent of Democrats in the poll. His closest competitor, Robert Kennedy Jr, lags well behind at a paltry 11 percent.<\/p>\n<p>In a realignment of the traditional primary and caucus schedule, Democrats stripped the Iowa caucus of its first-in-the-nation status earlier this year, according to ABC News. Iowa Republicans will still kick off the schedule for the GOP.<\/p>\n<p>Trump won Iowa in 2020, cementing the state\u2019s status as Republican-aligned.
