One Graph Shows Why the Gamble May Have Been a Mistake<\/h2>\n<p>Once upon a time not too long ago \u2014 January, say \u2014 the sky looked like the limit for Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis\u2019 presidential ambitions.<\/p>\n<p>Not only had DeSantis crushed it in the 2022 midterms \u2014 winning a second term in the governor\u2019s mansion by nearly 20 points after only narrowly beating Andrew Gillum in 2018 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/did-desantis-twitter-campaign-reveal-fail-bigly-one-graph-shows-why-the-gamble-may-have-been-a-mistake\/\" title=\"Did DeSantis' Twitter campaign backfire? One graph suggests it was a mistake.\">turning deep blue areas<\/a> of the Sunshine State Republican red \u2014 his chief opponent, former President Donald Trump, decidedly did not.<\/p>\n<p>In several key races, Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-see-repeat-of-2022-losses-ahead-of-hopeful-cycle\/\" title=\"Republicans see repeat of 2022 losses ahead of hopeful cycle\">candidates faltered<\/a>. Anti-Trump Republicans were quick to blame the former president for losing the Senate \u2014 and they may not have been wrong, considering the underwhelming performance of Trump-endorsed candidates like Blake Masters in Arizona, Herschel Walker in Georgia and Dr. Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania. Polls showed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/new-poll-desantis-leads-comfortably-first-gop-primary-state-tied-trump-second\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DeSantis closing in on Trump<\/a>, if not outright leading in some cases.<\/p>\n<p>Then, as soon as the Ron wave started, it began to peter out. Trump regained his footing, helped in no small part by an absurd indictment by Soros-funded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-furious-judge-assigns-unfair-date-court-showdown-bragg-election-implications-will-massive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg<\/a> over non<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lee-zeldin-endorses-trump-for-2024-presidential-bid\/\" title=\"Lee Zeldin Endorses Trump for 2024 Presidential Bid\">-disclosure payments made<\/a> to Stormy Daniels and several other women. The rallies were back, as was the pugnacious side of The Donald. DeSantis, meanwhile, had yet to even declare.<\/p>\n<p>But, on Wednesday evening, he made it official \u2014 and, not only that, but he eschewed the usual candidacy-announcement rally.
