Taylor Greene: Dems\u2019 police reform bill attacks law enforcement\">police reform bill<\/a> will remain in effect thanks to a veto by President <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Biden vetoed a <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/senate-votes-overturn-dc-police-reform-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">congressional effort<\/a> to overturn the bill on Thursday, which is the three-year anniversary of <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/george-floyd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">George Floyd<\/a>&#8216;s murder at the hands of police officer Derek Chauvin.<\/p>\n<p><b>BIDEN AND REPUBLICANS BLAME EACH OTHER FOR DEFAULT THEY INSIST WON&#8217;T HAPPEN<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This morning, the president also vetoed a congressional Republican-led disapproval resolution that would have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-vetoes-congress-dc-police-reform-bill-to-become-law\/\" title=\"Biden rejects DC police reform bill passed by Congress.\">nullified crucial police reforms<\/a>, many enacted in the District of Columbia on an emergency basis in 2020, after George Floyd\u2019s murder,&#8221; White House press secretary <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/karine-jean-pierre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Karine Jean-Pierre<\/a> said. &#8220;[These include] banning chokeholds, setting important restrictions on use of force and deadly force, improving access to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-passes-resolution-overturning-dc-policing-bill\/\" title=\"House Passes Resolution Overturning DC Policing Bill\">body-worn camera recordings<\/a>, and requiring officer training on de-escalation and use of force.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The district council passed the reforms last year, but all local legislation in Washington is subject to congressional oversight. The Republican-led House passed a disapproval resolution in April, and Senate Republicans <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/senate-votes-overturn-dc-police-reform-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">forced a vote in the upper chamber as well<\/a>, sending the resolution to the president&#8217;s desk.<\/p>\n<p>Biden vowed to veto the bill and chose the symbolically important anniversary of Floyd&#8217;s murder to follow through.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), who helped force the Senate vote, lashed out at Biden over the move.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith today\u2019s veto, President Biden rejected a bipartisan and commonsense effort to make our nation\u2019s capital safer,\u201d Vance said. \u201cThe millions of Americans who visit Washington and the brave men and women of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department deserve far better. It\u2019s a shame they won\u2019t get it from this administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eight senators who caucus with the Democrats joined all Republicans in backing the measure.<\/p>\n<p>Floyd&#8217;s murder set off nationwide protests in the summer of 2020, along with widespread calls for police reform, which the press secretary alluded to in her remarks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The president has repeatedly said we have an obligation to make sure that all people, all Americans, are safe and that public safety depends on public trust,&#8221; Jean-Pierre said. &#8220;It is a core policy of this administration to provide law enforcement the resources they need for effective, accountable community policing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Several of those reforms focus on prohibiting the use of neck restraints, increasing access to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/9-year-old-girl-pepper-sprayed-during-interaction-with-rochester-police\/\" title=\"9-Year-Old Girl Pepper Sprayed During Interaction With Rochester Police\">body camera footage<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dc-police-union-backs-new-house-resolution-seeking-to-roll-back-liberal-dc-crime-laws\/\" title=\"DC Police Union backs new House resolution seeking to roll back liberal DC crime laws\">revising officer discipline procedures<\/a>.
