Wyden&#8217;s Office Falsely Claims Hunter Biden IRS Whistleblower &#8220;Backed Out&#8221; of Meeting<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"article-content\">\n<p>A spokesman for Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., falsely claimed the Hunter Biden IRS whistleblower had \u201cbacked out\u201d of an agreement to meet with the Senate Finance Committee next week, the whistleblower\u2019s attorneys told The Federalist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s disappointing Senator Wyden\u2019s staff is playing partisan games by releasing inaccurate information,\u201d said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-lawyer-says-legal-team-will-be-well-prepared-in-rest-of-impeachment-trial\/\" title=\"Trump Lawyer Says Legal Team Will Be \u2018Well Prepared\u2019 in Rest of Impeachment Trial\">legal team representing<\/a> the whistleblower, who was identified as Gary Shapley during a CBS interview Wednesday. \u201cAs emails show, our client didn\u2019t \u2018back out\u2019 of anything because there was never anything to back out of.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1394666323\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a7405dcdccf5d9e24544ace49c2dfb84 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a7405dcdccf5d9e24544ace49c2dfb84\"><\/div>\n<p>On Wednesday, CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/05\/24\/politics\/irs-whistleblower-hunter-biden\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> the Senate Finance Committee\u2019s claims, quoting Wyden\u2019s spokesman, Ryan Carey, saying, \u201cCommittee staff on both sides agreed with counsel to meet directly with the whistleblower next week, however the whistleblower has since backed out of that agreement and declined an attempt to reschedule.\u201d Carey added that \u201cChairman Wyden\u2019s staff stand ready to arrange a meeting on terms that comply with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/emails-show-ron-wydens-office-lied-about-irs-whistleblower-backing-out-of-senate-meeting\/\" title=\"Ron Wyden's office lied about IRS whistleblower canceling Senate meeting, emails reveal.\">laws protecting taxpayer data<\/a> and ensure a fair and rigorous investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CNN later updated the article to include a detailed denial of the staffer\u2019s claim by Shapley\u2019s legal team.<\/p>\n<p>Emails obtained by The Federalist between Shapley\u2019s lawyers and Wyden\u2019s staff confirm the whistleblower\u2019s version of events.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, May 19, 2023, Mark Lytle, Shapley\u2019s Nixon Peabody lawyer, arranged for a conference call between the whistleblower\u2019s legal team and Wyden\u2019s office to discuss logistics for their client to sit for a transcribed deposition. The next email in the thread came from a Wyden staffer <em>the day after<\/em> Lytle and his co-counsel Tristan Leavitt, the president of Empower Oversight, had dispatched their May 22 letter to the chairs and ranking members of the Senate Finance Committee, the House Ways and Means Committee, and the Senate and House Judiciary Committees, as well as Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-21e37455b20ec72667cec6d3330a6e7c fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-21e37455b20ec72667cec6d3330a6e7c\"><\/div>\n<p>In their May 22 letter, the whistleblower\u2019s legal team summarized their version of what had transpired. They also noted that they had informed the Senate Finance Committee\u2019s staff that Shapley would testify before the House Ways and Means Committee on Friday, May 26, and reiterated their preference for a single joint interview or, at minimum, an interview the previous day, May 25.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, the Finance Committee would not commit to a date consecutive to the House interview as an accommodation to our client\u2019s concerns, as the staff had previously offered,\u201d the letter stressed. Wyden\u2019s staffers also refused to commit to an interview the Tuesday after the long Memorial Day weekend. The Senate Finance Committee\u2019s political game-playing prompted the whistleblower\u2019s attorneys to move forward with the House interview.<\/p>\n<p>It was only then that Wyden\u2019s office attempted to commit to an interview with the whistleblower before the Senate Finance Committee. In doing so, the staffer sent an email that both ignored Shapley\u2019s letter and misrepresented the prior communications, the whistleblower\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-fbi-agents-took-highly-confidential-personal-documents\/\" title=\"Trump: FBI Agents Took \u2018Highly Confidential\u2019 Personal Documents\">legal team confirmed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The email communications back up those claims, with the whistleblower\u2019s legal team writing that during their Friday call, Wyden\u2019s office \u201cwould not commit to *either* Thursday or the following Tuesday after the holiday.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-58407c7866625291cfa4077da4c411d9 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-58407c7866625291cfa4077da4c411d9\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe asked you to reconsider Thursday and you offered to check on logistics for Tuesday, expressing doubt that you could get a court reporter,\u201d the email continued. \u201cWe did not hear from you over the weekend or Monday, and thus sent the letter articulating our position and the reasons for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In response, Wyden\u2019s staffer did not dispute that sequence of events, but instead wrote that since Tuesday was represented as a \u201c\u2018distant third\u2019 option, it was an option\u201d: \u201cIn line with that agreement, Tuesday the 30th\u00a0is the date the Committee is available to meet.\u00a0Please let us know how you\u2019d like to proceed by the end of the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That final<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
