Jodi Benson, the actress who originally voiced Ariel, recently spoke out in support of these changes.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Changes to Classic Songs<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One of the most notable changes is to the lyrics of the classic song \u201cKiss the Girl.\u201d The words were altered to include consent, so the audience knows Prince Eric would never \u201cforce himself on Ariel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The original lyrics were:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cYes, you want her. Look at her, you know you do. Possible she wants you, too. There is one way to ask her. It don\u2019t take a word. Not a single word. Go on and kiss the girl.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The song \u201cPoor Unfortunate Souls\u201d also had lyric edits to make it more palatable for the PC crowd. The original version had the villain, Ursula, singing about how women should not speak out of turn.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Support for Change<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jodi Benson spoke out in support of the changes, saying, \u201cIt\u2019s 2023, so we have to grow, we have to learn, we have to be aware of our surroundings.\u201d She believes it\u2019s important to stay relevant and be aware of what\u2019s going on around us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alan Menken, who wrote the music for the original film, also supports the changes. He explained that the revisions were made to ensure that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-sordid-and-tragic-legacy-of-toddlers-tiaras\/\" title=\"The Sordid And Tragic Legacy Of \u2018Toddlers &#038; Tiaras\u2019\">young girls don\u2019<\/a>t feel like they shouldn\u2019t speak out of turn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Actress Halle Bailey, who plays Ariel in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fing-backward-story-peter-dinklage-slams-disney-for-attempting-snow-white-and-the-seven-dwarfs-remake\/\" title=\"\u2018F***ing Backward Story\u2019: Peter Dinklage Slams Disney For Attempting \u2018Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs\u2019 Remake\">newest film version<\/a>, also supports the changes. She believes the film is about more than just a girl leaving the ocean for a boy.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The live-action \u201cLittle Mermaid\u201d debuts in theaters on May 26.
