But only so long as it means he personally remains safe and gets to continue presenting himself as an important expert on foreign conflict.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/05\/22\/world\/europe\/bakhmut-ukraine.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> on Monday that the critical Ukraine territory of Bakhmut had been turned to dust and is now occupied by Russian troops. It was unfortunate timing for French, who wrote just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/05\/21\/opinion\/21french-ukraine-f16-fighters.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a day before<\/a> how fabulously positioned Ukraine was to gain a strategic advantage now that the Biden administration has prolonged the affair by clearing the way to supply it with fighter jets.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-59669183\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOn Friday morning, local time, I received news of one of the best American decisions of the war,\u201d wrote French, from Kyiv, in local time, because he is in Ukraine, as his column\u2019s dateline indicated, since he is there. \u201cThe White House would no longer block its European allies from supplying Ukraine with American-made F-16 fighters, a move that should greatly enhance Ukrainian military capabilities without significantly increasing the risk of unacceptable escalation in its conflict with Russia.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Honey, wake up the kids! David French says it\u2019s a good thing that we\u2019re doing more war! And guess what! He even says it\u2019s \u201cwithout significantly increasing the risk of unacceptable escalation!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Take one look at French\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ukraine-war-fetishist-david-french-is-now-lecturing-you-from-kyiv\/\" title=\"David French, a Ukraine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hungarys-orban-warns-people-will-demand-new-governments-if-ukraine-war-continues\/\" title=\"Hungary's Orb\u00e1n Warns People Will Demand New Governments If Ukraine War Continues\">war enthusiast<\/a>, is now giving lectures from Kyiv.&#8221;>protective eye goggles<\/a> and neckbeard. If the image doesn\u2019t steel your spine with confidence that he knows the exact right way to navigate deadly conflict, I don\u2019t know what to tell you.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>French went on to say he spent the past week in Kyiv \u2014\u00a0lest you forget that he is literally in Ukraine \u2014 so he personally \u201ccan attest to the relentlessness of Ukrainian arguments for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/top-u-s-military-officer-warns-we-must-fundamentally-change-our-military-or-china-will-beat-us\/\" title=\"Top U.S. Military Officer Warns: We Must \u2018Fundamentally\u2019 Change Our Military Or China Will Beat Us\">advanced fighters<\/a>.\u201d He said that during his travels to Kyiv, where he is, he \u201chad never seen as consistent, disciplined messaging as I experienced here\u201d (in Ukraine).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Folks \u2014\u00a0what more do you need? French has looked into the eyes of Ukrainians, because he is there in Ukraine, and seen for himself just how important it is that you, the American taxpayer, contribute more. The <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/01\/24\/a-day-late-and-113-billion-short-new-york-times-acknowledges-ukraine-as-a-broken-and-corrupt-nation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$100 billion-plus<\/a> (and counting) isn\u2019t enough. You need to do more. French knows this firsthand because he has been to Ukraine. He even wrote an article from there, which we know because it was datelined, \u201cKyiv, Ukraine.\u201d This isn\u2019t difficult to understand.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, <s>giving more money to one of the most corrupt countries in Europe<\/s> supplying Ukraine with advanced airpower comes at no risk of \u201csignificantly increasing the risk of unacceptable escalation\u201d with Russia. French says so. He\u2019s there, so he knows. (French was also once a lawyer in the military, so don\u2019t for one second doubt his expertise on just what it will take for Ukraine to triumph over Russia.)<\/p>\n<p>In any event, it was actually not much of a surprise to French that Ukrainians would ask for <s>more money<\/s> additional armament. He anticipated this. \u201cI came to Ukraine already believing that Kyiv needed advanced fighters,\u201d he wrote. (Of course he did.) \u201c[B]ut I was unsure whether it needed F-16s specifically.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That lack of certainty was eventually put to rest, because French was in Kyiv speaking directly with, as he put it, \u201cUkrainian leaders across the full spectrum of government, including the defense minister, the foreign minister and ministers and other officials involved in law enforcement and economic reconstruction.\u201d They told French they needed more weapons of war, and he believed them. And so, too, shall we.<\/p>\n<p>As for how sure French is that supplying Ukraine with yet more destructive gear raises no risk of violent escalation between the U.S. and Russia, he can only ask for your trust in his wisdom. \u201cThe F-16 \u2014 especially in the modest numbers under discussion \u2014 does not present a substantial threat to Russia itself,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt presents a substantial threat only to the Russian invasion. It is not a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ukraine-war-fetishist-david-french-is-now-lecturing-you-from-kiev\/\" title=\"David French, a Ukraine War enthusiast, is now giving lectures from Kiev.\">true deep-strike aircraft<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Folks,\u00a0this is simply how war works. If, like French, you describe weapons as \u201cmodest\u201d and make clear to note they\u2019re not \u201ca substantial threat,\u201d no harm, no foul. David knows because he is there \u2014 in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>If it\u2019s any consolation, French, the war enthusiast, closed with a prayer. Literally. \u201cThe Biden administration is ready to turn the page from helping Ukraine simply avoid defeat,\u201d he wrote. \u201cNow we are starting to help Ukraine achieve victory \u2014 and maintain the peace we pray is soon to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though, to be clear, when French says, \u201cWe are starting to help Ukraine,\u201d he doesn\u2019t mean he\u2019s in Ukraine to pick up a gun and strap a helmet to his bald head. He means he\u2019s safe from harm and getting paid to cheer on the violence while others die and you fret about looming nuclear war. He\u2019s doing his part, and he<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York Times columnist David French is in Ukraine, advocating for more American taxpayer-funded war.
