Republicans desire to join an increase in the debt ceiling with spending caps, while Democrats say they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/major-bank-sets-up-war-room-as-nation-approaches-debt-default\/\" title=\"Bank creates 'war room' for approaching debt default.\">prefer separate processes<\/a> for debt limit negotiations and budget reforms, a debate which occurs even as the government nears <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/yellen-says-nation-could-face-debt-default-in-less-than-three-weeks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">default<\/a> in as little as two weeks.<\/p>\n<h3>Jayapal and Ocasio-Cortez Speak Out<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Jayapal said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/townhallcom\/status\/1661028988985262080\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> with CNN outside of the Capitol Building that an agreement which involves spending caps would undo the policy successes which Biden secured during his administration. \u201cI think there would be a huge backlash from our entire House Democratic caucus, certainly the progressives, but also in the streets,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cIt\u2019s important that we don\u2019t take steps back from the very strong agenda that the president himself shepherded and led over the past two years.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Users on social media accused Jayapal of calling for protests over the potential spending reforms, although the lawmaker did not appear to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-lawmaker-predicts-backlash-in-the-streets-if-white-house-agrees-to-spending-cut\/\" title=\"Democrat warns of street backlash if White House agrees to spending cut.\">explicitly support violent behavior<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Ocasio-Cortez likewise affirmed that a deal which involves spending reforms or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mccarthy-frustrated-with-bidens-delays-on-debt-issue-says-excessive-spending-must-stop\/\" title=\"McCarthy upset with Biden's delay on debt, calls for end to overspending.\">increased work requirements<\/a> for federal welfare would be unacceptable. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a problem,\u201d she added. \u201cWe do not legislate through the debt ceiling for this very reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The comments from the lawmakers come one day after Biden met with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to continue negotiations over the debt limit.
