Ron DeSantis has made a subtle but notable change to his Twitter account, dropping the Florida abbreviation from his handle. For years, the 44-year-old has been reached by the account handle \u201c@RonDeSantisFL\u201d on his personal account. However, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4016978-desantis-changes-twitter-handle-ahead-of-rumored-2024-announcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hill<\/a>, DeSantis changed the account to \u201c@RonDeSantis\u201d this week. Additionally, the official \u201c@TeamRonDeSantis\u201d account has also dropped the FL abbreviation from its handle.<\/p>\n<p>The change in both accounts was noted just before it was announced by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/ron-desantis-presidential-bid-campaign-elon-musk-rcna85288\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a> that the governor will announce he will join the 2024 GOP primary on Wednesday evening during a Twitter Spaces chat with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ron-desantis-elon-musk-teaming-bombshell-2024-campaign-announcement-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elon Musk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Could DeSantis Be the Next President?<\/h3>\n<p>DeSantis has been wildly successful as a congressman and as Florida\u2019s chief executive. He won his 2018 gubernatorial bid by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/attorneys-for-trailing-democrat-candidate-claim-voting-machine-count-errors\/\" title=\"Attorneys For Trailing Democrat Candidate Claim Voting Machine Count \u2018Errors\u2019\">razor-thin margin<\/a> against Democrat Andrew Gillum but defeated Democrat Charlie Crist last November by almost 20 points. Although he has not entered the race, polls have consistently shown him as popular among potential primary voters.<\/p>\n<p>Former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/op-ed-trump-2024-romney-2012\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> currently leads the rest of the pack of both declared and undeclared candidates by a wide margin, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Real Clear Politics<\/a> average. Tuesday, the average showed Trump leading DeSantis 56.3 percent to 19.4 percent. Former Vice President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/pence-wastes-no-time-coming-trumps-defense-arrest-rumors-swirl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mike Pence<\/a> comes in a distant third with 5.6 percent support. DeSantis closes the gap a bit more in Iowa where he trails by 11.5 points in the average.<\/p>\n<p>That could change when or if DeSantis makes his announcement on Wednesday. If he is successful in both a primary and a general election, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/recruiting-toilet-desantis-mocks-biden-admin-navys-drag-queen-recruiter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DeSantis<\/a> will be only 46 years old at the time of the inauguration in January 2025.<\/p>\n<h3>Why DeSantis Could Be a Strong Contender<\/h3>\n<p>DeSantis could change the race with name recognition, a conservative record to run on, and the biggest financial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/04\/28\/desantis-trump-money-00094205\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">war chest<\/a> among all candidates. If his Twitter account is any indication, he is primed to separate himself from Florida and run a national campaign to seek the Republican Party\u2019s nomination.<\/p>\n<h3>What&#8217;s Next for DeSantis?<\/h3>\n<p>The governor will lay out his campaign during the chat with Elon Musk and will then quickly release a campaign video.
