While Gaetz had initially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntd.com\/here-are-the-6-republicans-who-voted-present-in-the-final-vote-for-mccarthys-house-speakership_893716.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposed McCarthy\u2019s speakership bid<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntd.com\/4-republicans-explain-why-they-opposed-speaker-mccarthys-debt-limit-bill_915984.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his proposal to increase the debt limit<\/a>, Gaetz said that he doesn\u2019t see a reason to find a new House speaker unless there\u2019s some \u201cdramatic, unexpected turn\u201d in McCarthy\u2019s debt limit negotiations with President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t remove someone simply because you disagree with them. By that standard, no speaker would last a single day. Speaker McCarthy simply must deliver on the promises he made in January,\u201d Gaetz said. \u201cSo far, his record doing so is admirable. It would also rescind any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-says-president-will-veto-mccarthy-debt-limit-deal\/\" title=\"Biden Admin Says President Will Veto McCarthy Debt Limit Deal\">unspent pandemic-era relief funds<\/a>, prohibit executive actions Biden has taken to cancel student loans, and impose work requirements for some recipients of Medicaid and Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP).<\/p>\n<p>While the current Limit, Save, Grow Act is unlikely to pass in the Democrat-controlled Senate, McCarthy is using the bill as a baseline for negotiating with the Biden administration, which has called for a \u201cclean bill\u201d to increase the debt limit without any additional conditions on spending.<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz said he did not oppose the Republican Limit, Save, Grow Act because he would prefer a \u201cclean\u201d debt limit increase, but rather because he has \u201cconsistently voted against raising the debt ceiling\u201d in the past.<\/p>\n<h2>Where Negotiations Stand<\/h2>\n<p>The negotiations are key as the United States is at its current $31.4 trillion debt limit and could default on a debt payment by June 1.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntd.com\/mccarthy-holds-press-conference-in-capitol-after-meeting-biden-on-debt-ceiling_921008.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">faced questions<\/a> about potential scenarios that may play out as the U.S. draws closer to a default on a debt payment.
