Eric Swalwell of Wrongdoing in Chinese Spy Investigation<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span class=\"ArticlePage-articleBody-firstLetter\">T<\/span>he House <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ethics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ethics Committee<\/a> has closed its investigation into Rep. <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/eric-swalwell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eric Swalwell<\/a>&#8216;s (D-CA) relationship with a <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/china\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chinese<\/a> spy.<\/p>\n<p>The committee&#8217;s investigation, which began in April 2021, ended Monday. The panel issued a letter to Swalwell on May 22 to inform him that the panel does not plan to take further action against him.<\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/economy\/debt-negotiations-mulvaney-fourteenth-amendment-harmful\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DEBT LIMIT: MULVANEY SAYS 14TH AMENDMENT ROUTE COULD BE HARMFUL AS TALKS CONTINUE<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/swalwell-claims-mccarthy-political-abuse-removing-him-schiff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">removed Swalwell<\/a> from the House Intelligence Committee in February as a result of the investigation, with the California Republican citing allegations that Swalwell had a relationship with Chinese operative Christine Fang in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Swalwell touted the letter as vindication on his part.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNearly 10 years ago I assisted the FBI in their counterintelligence investigation of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/just-in-republican-incumbent-mike-garcia-defeats-democrat-christy-smith-in-ca25-15th-gop-pick-up\/\" title=\"JUST IN: Republican Incumbent Mike Garcia Defeats Democrat Christy Smith in CA25 - 15th GOP Pick-Up\">campaign volunteer<\/a>,&#8221; he said in a statement, referring to Fang. &#8220;The case and my assistance were briefed to Republican Speaker of the House, John Boehner, and two years later, Republican Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, re-appointed me to the House Intelligence Committee. Neither Speaker questioned my actions nor politicized my cooperation. Despite the FBI repeatedly saying I was nothing but helpful and never accused of wrongdoing, this complaint was filed by a House Republican.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s time to move on. The bipartisan House Ethics Committee had this case for over two years,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;They had the power of subpoena. They <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fighting-abortion-now-requires-fighting-americans-increasing-hatred-of-children\/\" title=\"Fighting Abortion Now Requires Fighting Americans\u2019 Increasing Hatred Of Children\">received answers<\/a> from me in response to requests for information. Today, they are closing this matter and did not make a finding of any wrongdoing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Swalwell then alleged that the original complaint may have been a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-move-to-get-to-bottom-of-ministry-of-truth-while-its-paused\/\" title=\"House Republicans Move to Get to Bottom of Ministry of Truth While It\u2019s Paused\">malicious effort<\/a> to smear and silence him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the intent in bringing this complaint and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-ethics-committee-closes-inquiry-into-eric-swalwells-relationship-with-chinese-spy\/\" title=\"Eric Swalwell cleared by House Ethics Committee over Chinese spy relationship.\">leveling false smears<\/a> was to silence me that is not going to happen. I will continue to be a voice on behalf of my constituents and a passionate defender of democracy,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Swalwell was one of three prominent Democrats removed from House committees by McCarthy, which drew outrage from Democrats.<\/p>\n<h3>Background<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2020, a report found that Fang, a Chinese intelligence agent, had targeted several United States officials.<\/li>\n<li>She had volunteered on Swalwell&#8217;s 2014 congressional reelection campaign.<\/li>\n<li>Some alleged that she had a sexual relationship with the California Democrat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Despite the controversy, the House Ethics Committee has cleared Swalwell of any wrongdoing in his relationship with Fang.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
