Ron DeSantis and the state\u2019s Republican-controlled legislature have been busy at work making their state the most conservative in the nation.<\/p>\n<p>On an almost-weekly basis, Florida Republicans are implementing laws designed to defeat leftists\u2019 ongoing jihad against sanity and the American experiment. From protecting Florida\u2019s children from the harms of transgenderism to strengthening Second Amendment rights, DeSantis and company are creating a sanctuary for freedom-loving Americans seeking refuge from the government-induced tyranny in blue states. It\u2019s a blueprint that should \u2014 but <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/03\/23\/before-worrying-about-2024-conservatives-should-focus-on-making-republican-states-as-red-as-they-can-be\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hasn\u2019t<\/a> been \u2014 replicated by other allegedly \u201cred\u201d states.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-266312812\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div  class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3b1f4631f866f39243b242868e5e0d1c fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3b1f4631f866f39243b242868e5e0d1c\"><\/div>\n<p>By employing Florida\u2019s framework for success, Republicans can create a multi-state coalition to fight back against the left\u2019s continued encroachment on the country\u2019s freedoms and livelihoods. To help make this goal a reality, The Federalist has compiled a list of the Sunshine State\u2019s major 2023 legislative victories that citizens in other GOP-dominated states can model to make their communities as conservative as Florida.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Protecting Children from Leftist Indoctrination and Perversion<\/h2>\n<p>Last week, DeSantis signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2023\/05\/17\/governor-ron-desantis-signs-sweeping-legislation-to-protect-the-innocence-of-floridas-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">series of bills<\/a> aimed at protecting children from leftist indoctrination and perversion. Under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/1069\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 1069<\/a>, students and teachers would no longer be required to \u201cdeclare\u201d their pronouns at school or be forced to address someone with pronouns not based on one\u2019s sex. The bill also prohibits school officials from instructing children in Pre-K through eighth grade on concepts such as sexual orientation and so-called \u201cgender identity.\u201d The latter provision builds upon the state\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2022\/1557\/?Tab=Analyses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Parental Rights in Education<\/a>\u201d bill implemented last year that <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/29\/abc-news-doesnt-want-you-to-know-that-the-students-desantis-is-protecting-from-sex-propaganda-are-5-year-olds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bars<\/a> school officials from instructing children in kindergarten through third grade on such concepts.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis also signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/254\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 254<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/1438\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 1438<\/a>, banning harmful transgender procedures and puberty blockers for minors and protecting children from sexually explicit performances (such as drag shows), respectively. While the former measure would grant Florida courts the ability to intervene and halt the aforementioned procedures for out-of-state minors, the latter would allow the state to fine and suspend the license of any establishment found violating the law.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida governor also <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/05\/from-canning-esg-to-cracking-down-on-crime-heres-the-major-wins-desantis-scored-for-floridians-this-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">signed<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/1297\/?Tab=BillHistory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 1297<\/a>, which permits capital punishment for individuals convicted of sexual battery against minors under the age of 12, earlier this month.<\/p>\n<div  class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1568a1aa6861cdcb0bafeb2c6f89344d fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1568a1aa6861cdcb0bafeb2c6f89344d\"><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Banning Taxpayer-Funded \u2018DEI\u2019 in Higher Education<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2023\/05\/15\/governor-ron-desantis-signs-legislation-to-strengthen-floridas-position-as-national-leader-in-higher-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Signed<\/a> into law on May 15, <a href=\"https:\/\/flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/266\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 266<\/a> bars Florida universities from using federal or state taxpayer money to fund so-called \u201cdiversity, equity, and inclusion,\u201d or DEI, programs. For context, DEI is a divisive and poisonous ideology dismissive of merit to discriminate based on characteristics such as skin color and sexual orientation. Individuals who qualify for a certain position due to their merits but don\u2019t meet the discriminating entity\u2019s goal of being more \u201cdiverse\u201d are passed over in favor of those who meet institutionally preferred identitarian standards.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Crackdown on Crime<\/h2>\n<p>In an effort to counter leftist prosecutors\u2019 soft-on-crime policies, Florida Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/05\/from-canning-esg-to-cracking-down-on-crime-heres-the-major-wins-desantis-scored-for-floridians-this-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">passed<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/1627\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 1627<\/a>, which seeks to strengthen the state\u2019s bail laws. The legislature additionally passed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/1359\/?ref=theflstandard.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 1359<\/a>, which enhances punishments for individuals caught trafficking fentanyl that looks like candy. According to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/flgov.com\/2023\/05\/01\/governor-ron-desantis-signs-third-consecutive-anti-crime-pro-public-safety-legislative-package\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>\u00a0from DeSantis\u2019s office, \u201cthose who traffic such substances [become] eligible for a life sentence\u201d and could face \u201ca minimum 25 year sentence and a $1 million penalty.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Constitutional Carry<\/h2>\n<p>Florida further expanded the Second Amendment rights of its citizens last month after DeSantis signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/543\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 543<\/a>, which allows for permitless carry of a concealed\u00a0firearm. The passage of the bill makes Florida the nation\u2019s 26th \u201cconstitutional carry\u201d state, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2023\/04\/florida-becomes-the-26th-constitutional-carry-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Crime Prevention Research Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Defending Life in the Womb<\/h2>\n<p>In response to the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s overturning of <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>, the Florida legislature passed the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Heartbeat Protection Act<\/a>.\u201d The bill (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 300<\/a>) \u2014 which was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2023\/04\/13\/governor-ron-desantis-signs-heartbeat-protection-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">signed into law<\/a> last month \u2014 prohibits abortions once the unborn baby has a detectible heartbeat.<\/p>\n<div  class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-67c7995a1aa15509af1afa043f28bb70 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-67c7995a1aa15509af1afa043f28bb70\"><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Confronting CCP Influence<\/h2>\n<p>Earlier this month, DeSantis signed a series of bills aimed at combatting the influence of the Chinese Communist Party in Florida. According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2023\/05\/08\/governor-ron-desantis-cracks-down-on-communist-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>, the legislation aims to \u201climit Chinese purchases of agriculture land and land near military bases and critical infrastructure, to protect digital data from Chinese spies, and to root out Chinese influence in Florida\u2019s education system.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Covid Tyranny<\/h2>\n<p>On May 11, DeSantis signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2023\/05\/11\/governor-ron-desantis-signs-the-strongest-legislation-in-the-nation-for-medical-freedom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">legislative package<\/a> outlawing much of the medical tyranny the country experienced during Covid-19 lockdowns. Included in the various bills are provisions banning businesses and governments from mandating individuals show proof of vaccination (for entry, service, or employment), prohibiting <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/gain-of-function\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gain-of-function<\/a> research, and expanding free speech protections for health care providers and physicians.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Central Bank Digital Currency<\/h2>\n<p>Signed earlier this month, SB 7054 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2023\/05\/12\/governor-ron-desantis-signs-first-in-the-nation-legislation-to-protect-against-government-surveillance-of-personal-finances\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prohibits<\/a> \u201cthe use of a federally adopted central bank digital currency (CBDC) by excluding it from the definition of money within Florida\u2019s Uniform Commercial Code.\u201d CBDC is a form of electronic money issued and controlled by a nation\u2019s central bank or monetary authority. The policy could allow governments to exert <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cato.org\/study\/risks-of-cbdcs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">greater control<\/a> over their citizens\u2019 financial activities and is supported by globalist organizations such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2022\/10\/25\/coup-complete-globalist-rishi-sunak-installed-as-prime-minister-of-the-united-kingdom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Economic Forum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ESG Standards<\/h2>\n<p>Earlier this month, DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2023\/05\/02\/governor-ron-desantis-signs-legislation-to-protect-floridians-financial-future-economic-liberty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">signed<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/3\/ByVersion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 3<\/a>, which, according to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wusfnews.wusf.usf.edu\/politics-issues\/2023-05-03\/desantis-signs-esg-ban-jacksonville\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">local news outlet<\/a>, bans \u201cenvironmental, social and governance considerations from investment decisions and protect[s] consumers\u2019 ability to access financial services\u201d in Florida. As The Federalist previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/11\/10\/how-biden-is-laying-the-foundation-for-a-great-reset-of-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, ESG standards are a tool used to evaluate companies based on how \u201cwoke\u201d they are based on a series of environmental, social, and governance metrics. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/22\/how-global-capitals-social-credit-systems-force-corporate-america-to-lurch-left\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Developed<\/a>\u00a0\u201cby bankers, investors, activists, and, in some cases, government officials,\u201d ESG models can reward or punish businesses based on their commitment to leftist concepts such as \u201cenvironmental\u201d and \u201csocial\u201d justice.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Illegal Immigration<\/h2>\n<p>Florida implemented SB 1718 earlier this month to combat the open border policies of President Joe Biden. According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2023\/05\/10\/governor-ron-desantis-signs-strongest-anti-illegal-immigration-legislation-in-the-country-to-combat-bidens-border-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>, the bill \u201cmakes using E-Verify mandatory for any employer with 25 or more employees, imposes enforceable penalties for those employing illegal aliens, and enhances penalties for human smuggling.\u201d The measure furthermore invalidates ID cards issued to illegal aliens in other states, bars local governments from providing ID cards to illegal aliens, and requires hospitals \u201cto collect and submit data on the costs of providing health care to illegal aliens.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Women\u2019s Safety<\/h2>\n<p>Signed into law last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2023\/1521\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 1521<\/a> stipulates that facilities reserved for women, such as bathrooms and locker rooms, may only be used by women and not men claiming to be women. The bill further requires \u201ceducational institutions, detention facilities, correctional institutions, juvenile correctional facilities, and public buildings with a restroom or changing facility to designate separate facilities based on biological sex or to provide one-person unisex facilities,\u201d according to a DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2023\/05\/17\/governor-ron-desantis-signs-sweeping-legislation-to-protect-the-innocence-of-floridas-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div  class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-5d3249e3f07e44aaf3cfb779a4aaa251 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-5d3249e3f07e44aaf3cfb779a4aaa251\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">   Shawn Fleetwood is a Staff Writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
