Alan Grayson&#8217;s Defamation Lawsuit Dismissed by Supreme Court<\/h2>\n<h3>Background<\/h3>\n<p>Former Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) lost a defamation lawsuit against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-operatives-are-running-swing-state-pr-campaigns-disguised-as-local-news\/\" title=\"Democrat Operatives Are Running Swing-State PR Campaigns Disguised As Local News\">independent political groups<\/a> over the 2018 election. Grayson represented Florida\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dccc-chair-spent-big-on-travel-as-he-urged-constituents-to-stay-home-and-stop-spreading-the-virus\/\" title=\"DCCC Chair Spent Big on Travel as He Urged Constituents to \u2018Stay Home\u2019 and \u2018Stop Spreading the Virus\u2019\">9th congressional district<\/a> from 2013 to 2017 and attempted a political comeback in 2022 but lost the Democratic Party\u2019s primary for Florida\u2019s 10th congressional district.<\/p>\n<h3>The Supreme Court&#8217;s Decision<\/h3>\n<p>The Supreme Court dismissed Grayson v. No Labels Inc., court file 22-906, in an unsigned order. The court did not provide an explanation for its decision, and no justices dissented from the order.<\/p>\n<h3>The Lawsuit<\/h3>\n<p>Grayson sued No Labels Inc., its founder Nancy Jacobson, her husband Mark Penn, and two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/amid-threats-of-corporate-donation-withdrawals-gop-senate-fund-hauls-in-8-3-million\/\" title=\"Amid Threats Of Corporate Donation Withdrawals, GOP Senate Fund Hauls In .3 Million\">political action committees<\/a> for defamation, defamation by implication, and civil conspiracy. He claimed that the respondents engaged in defamatory political speech opposing his candidacy in the 2018 campaign, which influenced voters in his district to vote against him and caused him to lose.<\/p>\n<h3>The Ruling<\/h3>\n<p>Judge Paul Byron of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida granted summary judgment against Grayson, finding \u201cthere is not even a scintilla of evidence showing\u2014much less clear and convincing proof of\u2014actual malice.\u201d The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit affirmed Byron\u2019s ruling, determining that \u201cGrayson submitted no evidence from which a jury might plausibly infer that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-wont-hear-florida-democrats-defamation-appeal\/\" title=\"Florida Democrat's defamation appeal denied by Supreme Court.\">defendants\u201d made false statements<\/a> about Grayson, whether knowingly or recklessly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court dismissed a defamation lawsuit brought by former Rep.
