Brandt pled guilty to manslaughter, and the charges were reduced from murder to manslaughter.<\/p>\n<h3>Controversy Surrounding the Case<\/h3>\n<p>The case quickly became controversial after an affidavit from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/suspected-serial-killer-arrested-in-mo-for-alleged-shooting-spree\/\" title=\"Suspected serial killer arrested in Mo. for alleged shooting spree\">police suggested<\/a> that Brandt had run down Ellingson following a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/walsh-many-on-the-left-truly-want-their-political-opponents-to-die-the-reaction-to-limbaughs-passing-proves-that\/\" title=\"WALSH: Many On The Left Truly Want Their Political Opponents To Die. Ellingson\u2019s death was determined to be an accident, and not intentional according to investigators.<\/p>\n<h3>Brandt&#8217;s Claims<\/h3>\n<p>Brandt claimed in a 911 call that he had felt threatened by Ellingson, over the teen\u2019s alleged connection to a \u201cRepublican extremist group,\u201d and was urging others to attack Brandt after a political argument, according to the call.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was threatening me with something to have to do with \u2014 something with an extremist Republican group. And then he made a phone call. He made a phone call saying, \u2018I thought he was Republican (background noise) or something. You\u2019re going have to come here and handle him.\u2019 I got scared to death. I didn\u2019t know what to do,\u201d a transcript of Brandt\u2019s 911 call says.<\/p>\n<h3>Autopsy Report<\/h3>\n<p>An autopsy report said that Ellingson\u2019s fatal \u201cinjuries weren\u2019t caused from being struck by Shannon Brandt\u2019s vehicle and were caused by being run over\u201d once he was on the ground.<\/p>\n<h3>Brandt&#8217;s Sentencing<\/h3>\n<p>When sentenced, Brandt could face 10 years in prison.
