The warmth of the audience and a clip reel that had just played had left Ford shaken.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey say that when you\u2019re about to die, you see your life flash before your eyes,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I just saw my life flash before my eyes \u2014 a great part of my life, but not all of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>A Moving Farewell Tour<\/h3>\n<p>If last year\u2019s Cannes was partially defined by its tribute to \u201cTop Gun Maverick\u201d star Tom Cruise, this year\u2019s has belonged to Ford. This time, it\u2019s been far more poignant. Ford, 80, is retiring Indiana Jones, saying goodbye to the iconic swashbuckling archeologist more than 40 years after he first debuted, with fedora, whip and a modest snake phobia.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been a moving farewell tour \u2014 most of all for Ford, who has teared up frequently along the way. Speaking to reporters Friday, Ford was asked: Why give up Indy now?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs it not evident?\u201d he replied with a characteristically sheepish grin. \u201cI need to sit down and rest a little bit. I love to work. And I love this character. And I love what it brought into my life. That\u2019s all I can say.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,\u201d the fifth Indiana Jones film, premiered Thursday night in Cannes, bringing an affecting coda to the franchise begun with 1981\u2019s \u201cRaiders of the Lost Ark.\u201d While that film and the next three were all directed by Steven Spielberg from a story by George Lucas, Ford\u2019s final chapter is directed and co-written by James Mangold, the \u201cFord vs. Ferrari\u201d filmmaker.<\/p>\n<p>The gala, one of the most sought-after tickets at Cannes this year, also included an honorary Palme d\u2019Or given to Ford. The next day, Ford was still struggling to articulate the experience of unveiling his final turn as Indiana Jones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was indescribable. I can\u2019t even tell you,\u201d said Ford. \u201cIt\u2019s just extraordinary to see a kind of relic of your life as it passes by.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Retirement from Indiana Jones, Not Acting<\/h3>\n<p>Ford isn\u2019t retiring from acting. He has two ongoing TV series (\u201cShrinking,\u201d \u201c1923\u201d) and he said he remains committed to working.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy luck has been been to work with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dc-studios-head-peter-safran-confirms-batgirl-was-unreleasable-says-it-wouldve-hurt-everyone-involved\/\" title=\"DC Studios Head Peter Safran Confirms \u201cBatgirl\u201d Was \u201cUnreleasable,\u201d Says \u201cIt Would\u2019ve Hurt Everyone Involved\u201d\">incredibly talented people<\/a> and find my way into this crowd of geniuses and not get my ass kicked out,\u201d said Ford. \u201cAnd I\u2019ve apparently still got a chance to work and I want that. I need that in my life, that challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ford, like Indiana, isn\u2019t departing without his hat. He\u2019s kept one, Ford said, but he more prizes the experience of making the films. \u201cThe stuff is great but it\u2019s not about the stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And Ford can still turn heads. One female reporter declared that the 80-year-old was \u201cstill hot\u201d and asked Ford \u2014 who briefly appears shirtless in the movie \u2014 how he stays fit.
