Elizabeth Warren Blames Federal Reserve Inspector General for Lack of Oversight<\/h2>\n<h3>Background<\/h3>\n<p>During a Senate Banking Subcommittee on Economic Policy hearing, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) questioned Federal Reserve Inspector General Mark Bialek about suspicious trades involving Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and former Vice Chair Richard Clarida that occurred a few <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/historic-torture-trial-in-germany-renders-verdict-against-former-syrian-intelligence-officer\/\" title=\"Historic Torture Trial In Germany Renders Verdict Against Former Syrian Intelligence Officer\">years back<\/a>. Warren pointed out that Powell and Clarida\u2019s actions were not in compliance with Fed rules but there has been no corrective or disciplinary action. In July 2022, the IG cleared Powell and Clarida, insisting the duo did not make any improper trades while at their posts.<\/p>\n<h3>Warren&#8217;s Criticism<\/h3>\n<p>Warren blamed Bialek for a lack of \u201ccompetent oversight\u201d during the hearing. She reminded Bialek that it has been a year and a half since these matters were being investigated. \u201cThis is not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-student-loan-chief-allegedly-facilitated-racist-sexist-work-environment-at-cfpb\/\" title=\"Federal Student Loan Chief Allegedly Facilitated Racist, Sexist Work Environment at CFPB\">strong oversight<\/a>. In fact, it is not even competent oversight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt looks like, to anyone in the public, that you gave your boss a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-releases-statement-following-second-impeachment-acquittal-in-senate-hints-at-future\/\" title=\"Trump Releases Statement Following Second Impeachment Acquittal In Senate, Hints At Future\">free pass<\/a>,\u201d Warren said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s just not gonna cut it here. And even today, a year and a half later, the Fed continues to stonewall Congress, stonewall the public on the underlying information about these trades. This is not acceptable. And this is why we are pushing for an independent IG.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Investigation Findings<\/h3>\n<p>Warren talked about the four-page report Bialek released last year regarding his investigation of key Fed board members. The investigation found that Clarida failed to report several trades in 2019 and 2020. It also identified trades involving Powell\u2019s family trust that were made during a blackout period for the Federal Open Market Committee, the Fed\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/perceived-gaps-in-investigations-on-fed-chair-powells-alleged-insider-trading-sen-warren\/\" title=\"Sen. Warren notes 'Perceived Gaps' in Fed Chair Powell's Insider Trading Investigation.\">monetary policy-making body<\/a>. These were \u201ctrades that should not have been made at those times under the Fed\u2019s rules,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, the rules say \u2018no trading during the blackout period,\u2019 But Powell\u2019s trust did exactly that. The rules say Fed Governors must disclose all trades in a timely fashion. Mr. Clarida clearly did not. And yet your investigation, I\u2019m going to quote you here, \u2018did not find evidence\u2019 that your boss Chair Powell and Mr. Clarida \u2018violated the Fed\u2019s rules.\u2019 That finding just makes no sense to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The actions of Powell and Clarida were \u201cunambiguously inconsistent with the Fed\u2019s rules,\u201d Warren said, quoting Bialek\u2019s investigation. Yet \u201cyou recommended no disciplinary action, no corrective action.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Conclusion<\/h3>\n<p>In conclusion, Warren criticized Bialek for a lack of competent oversight and called for an independent IG. The investigation found that Powell and Clarida&#8217;s actions were not in compliance with Fed rules, yet no disciplinary or corrective action was taken.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
