Former FBI special agent Steve Friend filed protected whistleblower disclosures in August 2022 over concerns he had regarding investigations assigned to his office over the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot. Friend was concerned the conduction of these inquiries represented a departure from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/whistleblowers-expose-fbis-corruption-and-ongoing-persecution-of-political-opponents-in-damning-new-testimony\/\" title=\"FBI corruption and persecution of political opponents exposed by whistleblowers in new testimony.\">proper \u201ccase management rules established<\/a> in the FBI\u2019s Domestic Investigations and Operations Guide\u201d and that such actions \u201ccould have undermined potentially righteous prosecutions and may have been part of an effort to inflate the FBI\u2019s statistics on domestic extremism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite following proper whistleblower protocol, Friend said the FBI quickly retaliated against him by weaponizing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/u-s-considers-repatriating-afghan-evacuees-who-fail-vetting-process\/\" title=\"U.S. Considers Repatriating Afghan Evacuees Who Fail Vetting Process\">security clearance process<\/a> to remove him from active duty \u201cwithin one month\u201d of filing his disclosures. According to Friend, the agency then orchestrated a \u201ccampaign of humiliation and intimidation\u201d designed to \u201cpunish and pressure [him] to resign,\u201d which included leaking his private medical information to The New York Times, refusing to \u201cfurnish [his] training records for several months,\u201d and imposing an \u201cillegal gag order\u201d to prevent him from \u201ccommunicating with [his] family and attorneys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Garret O\u2019Boyle, a U.S. Army combat veteran and former FBI special agent, chronicled his own experience with the FBI\u2019s disdain for whistleblowers. At some point after filing a whistleblower disclosure over concerns the agency was being used to go after the regime\u2019s political opponents, O\u2019Boyle sought another position within the country, which the FBI approved of. According to O\u2019Boyle, it was only after he had sold his home and moved his family \u201chalfway across the country\u201d did the FBI then suspend him.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus Allen, a former Marine and FBI staff operations specialist, also testified about his experience with the FBI\u2019s politicization, particularly its attempts to destroy the lives and careers of those within its ranks with dissenting views. As part of his position, Allen was tasked with providing situational awareness and information regarding the Jan. 6 riot. After submitting information to his superiors and others that questioned \u201cthe narrative\u201d of Jan. 6, however, Allen was accused of pushing \u201cconspiratorial views\u201d and \u201cunreliable information.\u201d The FBI subsequently suspended Allen in January 2022 and questioned his allegiance to the United States.<\/p>\n<h3>House Democrats Attempt to Slander Whistleblowers<\/h3>\n<p>Predictably, House Democrats used Thursday\u2019s hearing to slander the whistleblowers to cover for the FBI\u2019s authoritarianism. In one instance, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., attempted to equate Friend\u2019s calls to \u201cdefund the FBI\u201d due to its weaponized behavior with support for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/minneapolis-leaders-call-on-residents-to-stand-up-to-violent-criminals-amid-cop-shortage-skyrocketing-crime\/\" title=\"Minneapolis Leaders Call On Residents To \u2018Stand Up\u2019 To Violent Criminals Amid Cop Shortage, Skyrocketing Crime\">defunding law enforcement<\/a>. The Florida Democrat also accused Friend of using Thursday\u2019s hearing to promote his upcoming book \u2014 which Friend never mentioned \u2014 and attacked the former agent for his concerns over the FBI\u2019s use of excessive force during certain arrests.<\/p>\n<p>In his prior testimony, Friend detailed a case where the FBI planned to use a SWAT team to carry out an arrest warrant on a Jan. 6 \u201csubject.\u201d According to Friend, he was concerned over the use of such tactics because \u201cthe subject of the arrest warrant had been in communication with the FBI at that point and had expressed a willingness to cooperate.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Conclusion<\/h3>\n<p>The revelations of corruption and retaliation against whistleblowers within the FBI are deeply concerning. It is imperative that the agency be held accountable for its actions and that steps are taken to ensure that whistleblowers are protected from retaliation.
