Blocking sunlight from reaching the earth, creating rain, and altering a hurricane are concepts usually associated with movie villain stereotypes. But this is exactly what the U.S. government has invested millions of dollars into for decades, including this year.<\/p>\n<p>But the United States isn\u2019t alone. Due to ongoing climate concerns, renewed interest in geoengineering has taken countries by storm. Global governments\u2014including China\u2014have officially jumped on the geoengineering or \u201cclimate intervention\u201d bandwagon.<\/p>\n<h3>The Two Main Types of Geoengineering<\/h3>\n<p>Within the realm of geoengineering, there are two main types: solar radiation management and carbon removal. Weather manipulation, like cloud seeding, also falls under this umbrella. Cloud seeding is used to manufacture or alter rainfall, snow, or even entire storms.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Solar radiation management: aims to deflect sunlight back into space using stratospheric aerosols.<\/li>\n<li>Carbon removal: aims to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/john-kerry-implies-net-zero-emissions-goal-not-good-enough-says-we-need-to-get-carbon-dioxide-out-of-the-atmosphere\/\" title=\"John Kerry Implies Net-Zero Emissions Goal Not Good Enough, Says We Need To \u2018Get Carbon Dioxide Out Of The Atmosphere\u2019\">remove carbon dioxide<\/a> from the atmosphere and store it elsewhere.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Cloud Seeding in Western States<\/h3>\n<p>In March, the Southern Nevada Water Authority was given a $2.4 million government grant to enhance cloud seeding in Western states, including Colorado River reservoirs. \u201cThis money from reclamation is wonderful. We just have to decide how exactly it\u2019s going to benefit us,\u201d Andrew Rickert, cloud seeding coordinator for the Colorado Water Conservation Board, told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>This followed on the heels of last year\u2019s White House announcement of the funding of a five-year study on climate modification and geoengineering.<\/p>\n<h3>The Risks of Geoengineering<\/h3>\n<p>But not everyone is excited over the renewed interest in climate manipulation. Security analysts and scientists are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hotwire-our-democracy-itself-mcconnell-attacks-dems-for-the-people-voting-bill\/\" title=\"\u2018Hotwire Our Democracy Itself\u2019: McConnell Attacks Dems \u2018For The People\u2019 Voting Bill\">sounding alarm bells<\/a> over the geopolitical and environmental implications.<\/p>\n<p>Unknown Consequences \u201cJust because people do it, doesn\u2019t mean it works,\u201d Dr. Alan Robock told The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>Robock is a professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences at Rutgers University. He doesn\u2019t think geoengineering or \u201cclimate intervention\u201d is advanced enough to make a significant impact, for better or worse. He also stressed that more research\u2014a lot more\u2014is needed before any real progress can be made.<\/p>\n<p>In a May 2022 risk analysis study of geoengineering, researchers concluded there was no risk-free scenario with any \u201cclimate intervention\u201d methods.<\/p>\n<p>Possible environmental consequences aside, there\u2019s a security angle to consider. More advanced methods of weather manipulation will soon, if not already, be at the fingertips of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-sleepy-joe-biden-struggles-to-stay-awake-during-climate-change-summit\/\" title=\"Watch: Sleepy Joe Biden Struggles to Stay Awake During Climate Change Summit\">global governments<\/a>.
