The ban is more sweeping than any other state&#8217;s attempts to curtail the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nurses-dance-in-cringeworthy-tiktok-video-at-a-time-when-hospitals-are-supposedly-overrun-due-to-covid\/\" title=\"Nurses Dance In Cringeworthy TikTok Video At A Time When Hospitals Are Supposedly \u201cOverrun\u201d Due To COVID\">social media app<\/a> and is expected to be challenged legally. This move will serve as a testing ground for the TikTok-free America that many national lawmakers have envisioned.<\/p>\n<h3>Why the Ban?<\/h3>\n<p>Some lawmakers, the FBI, and officials at other agencies are concerned that the video-sharing app, owned by the Chinese tech company ByteDance, could be used to allow the Chinese government to access information on American citizens or push pro-Beijing misinformation that could influence the public. TikTok says none of this has ever happened.<\/p>\n<p>When Montana banned the app on government-owned devices in late December, Governor Greg Gianforte said TikTok posed a &#8220;significant risk&#8221; to sensitive state data. More than half of U.S. states and the federal government have a similar ban.<\/p>\n<h3>The Ban&#8217;s Details<\/h3>\n<p>Montana&#8217;s new law prohibits downloads of TikTok in the state and would fine any &#8220;entity&#8221; &#8211; an app store or TikTok &#8211; $10,000 per day for each time someone &#8220;is offered the ability&#8221; to access the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-new-acting-attorney-general-jeff-rosen-recently-wrote-an-essay-on-foreign-influence-in-us-elections-this-tells-us-a-little-about-his-knowledge-of-whats-going-on-today\/\" title=\"The New Acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen Recently Wrote an Essay on Foreign Influence in US Elections \u2013 This Tells Us A Little About His Knowledge of What\u2019s Going On Today\">social media platform<\/a> or download the app. The penalties would not apply to users.<\/p>\n<p>Opponents argue that this is government overreach and say Montana residents could easily circumvent the ban by using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/china-censors-oscar-winner-news-over-criticism-of-regime\/\" title=\"China censors Oscar winner news over criticism of regime\">virtual private network<\/a>.
