During The Walt Disney Company\u2019s Q2 FY23 Earnings Results webcast, Iger stated, \u201cAs we grow the business in terms of the global footprint, we realized that we made a lot of content that is not necessarily driving sub growth and we\u2019re getting much more surgical about what it is we make.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Reducing Content Spend and Focusing on Real Sub Drivers<\/h3>\n<p>Iger revealed that many of the pieces of content they created were negatively impacting the company\u2019s bottom line due to their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nolte-spielbergs-woke-side-story-is-a-bigger-flop-than-cats\/\" title=\"Nolte: Spielberg's 'Woke Side Story' Is a Bigger Flop than 'Cats'\">marketing costs<\/a> outweighing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-times-shares-jump-after-activist-investor-valueact-discloses-6-7-stake\/\" title=\"New York Times Shares Jump After Activist Investor ValueAct Discloses 6.7% Stake\">subscription revenue<\/a>. He explained, \u201cAnd one interesting example \u2014 I should throw marketing in too \u2014 where when you make a lot of content everything needs to be marketed. You\u2019re spending a lot of money marketing things that are not going to have an impact on the bottom except negatively due to the marketing costs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Iger then went on to admit there was a number of pieces of programming that were not driving any subscriptions whatsoever, \u201cAs witnessed by the ones that are coming up including Avatar, Little Mermaid, Guardians of the Galaxy, Indiana Jones, Elemental, etc\u2026, where we actually believe we have an opportunity to lean into those more, put the right marketing dollars against it, allocate more away from programming that was not driving any subs at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>New Strategy: Quality Over Quantity<\/h3>\n<p>The new strategy the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/revealed-whistleblower-docs-show-big-4-firms-massive-anti-racist-indoctrination\/\" title=\"Revealed: Whistleblower Docs Show \u2018Big 4\u2019 Firm\u2019s Massive \u2018Anti-Racist\u2019 Indoctrination\">company plans<\/a> to employ is to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/disney-ceo-bob-iger-on-disney-we-realized-that-we-made-a-lot-of-content-that-is-not-necessarily-driving-sub-growth\/\" title=\"Disney CEO Bob Iger admits: \"We have a lot of content that isn't boosting subscriptions.\"\">produce lower volumes<\/a> of content in alignment with a strategic shift towards quality over quantity. The Walt Disney Company\u2019s Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy detailed it earlier in the Earnings Results webcast. She said, \u201cWe are in the process of reviewing the content on our DTC services to align with the strategic changes in our approach to content curation that you\u2019ve heard Bob discuss. As a result we will be removing certain content from our streaming platform and currently expect to take an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 to $1.8 billion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What do you make of Bob Iger admitting his Disney+ strategy was negatively effecting the bottom line?
