However, many reporters were not convinced by his answers.<\/p>\n<h3>Mayorkas Blames Broken Immigration System<\/h3>\n<p>Mayorkas, who has been leading the department for nearly the entire duration of Biden&#8217;s presidency, took no responsibility for the ongoing crisis and instead blamed a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-recruiting-gop-senators-for-amnesty-deal\/\" title=\"Democrats Recruiting GOP Senators for Amnesty Deal\">broken immigration system<\/a>.&#8221; When asked about the measures that the administration claims will address the surge at the border, Mayorkas sidestepped the question and claimed that the department had &#8220;surged resources of all types over months and months.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Reporters Question Mayorkas&#8217; Plan<\/h3>\n<p>Reporters pressed Mayorkas about a memo obtained by the U.S. Border Patrol chief that said illegal aliens would be released into the interior if overcrowding became an issue. Mayorkas claimed that it was &#8220;not an honor system,&#8221; but many reporters were not convinced. They pointed out that migrants don&#8217;t get an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/one-in-four-illegal-aliens-released-into-u-s-without-registration-number\/\" title=\"One in Four Illegal Aliens Released Into U.S. Without Registration Number\">alien registration number<\/a> or a court date and are instead asked to self-report to ICE within 60 days.<\/p>\n<h3>Mayorkas Admits It&#8217;s an Honor System<\/h3>\n<p>Mayorkas claimed that the vast majority of individuals will be placed in expedited removal and, if they do not qualify, will be removed in a matter of days or weeks from the United States. However, he effectively admitted that it was an honor system by saying that &#8220;if those individuals do not honor their commitment to surrender to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officer to be able to be placed in enforcement proceedings, they are a subject of our apprehension efforts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Conclusion<\/h3>\n<p>Overall, Mayorkas&#8217; defense of the Biden administration&#8217;s handling of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dhs-secretary-mayorkas-on-continually-worsening-border-crisis-it-will-take-more-time-to-show-results\/\" title=\"Mayorkas, DHS Secretary, says it will take longer to see results in the worsening border crisis.\">southern border crisis left<\/a> many reporters unsatisfied.
