Perry claims he acted in self-defense during the altercation, but was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-please-pardon-jon-woods-a-victim-of-process-crimes-like-michael-flynn\/\" title=\"President Trump, Please Pardon Jon Woods, a Victim of Process Crimes Like Michael Flynn\">found guilty<\/a> of murder last month and was facing anywhere from 5 to 99 years behind bars. <\/p>\n<p>At the time of his death, Garrett Foster, a 28-year-old white man, was protesting the death of George Floyd. Perry told investigators, according to the Austin American-Statesman, \u201cThe protesters were all around me, banging on the side of the car, hitting me with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-doj-recommends-no-jail-time-for-trans-vandal-of-catholic-church\/\" title=\"Biden DOJ Recommends No Jail Time for Trans Vandal of Catholic Church\">spray paint cans<\/a>. One guy (Foster) wanted to talk to me.\u201d Perry said he rolled down his window to talk to Foster, who said something quietly before raising his weapon. Foster was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/s-c-gov-signs-open-carry-with-training-act\/\" title=\"S.C. Gov. signs Open Carry with Training Act\">openly carrying<\/a> an AK-47 across his chest. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s when I got my weapon and pulled the trigger as fast as I could, and then drove away and called 911,\u201d Perry told police. He turned himself into authorities immediately following the incident. <\/p>\n<h3>Republican Texas Governor Vows to Pardon Perry<\/h3>\n<p>Notably, Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has vowed to pardon Perry. Abbott went after the prosecutor in the Perry case, District Attorney Jose Garza, whose campaign was backed by billionaire Democrat megadonor George Soros. \u201cTexas has one of the strongest \u2018Stand Your Ground\u2019 laws of self-defense that cannot be nullified by a jury or a progressive District Attorney,\u201d the governor said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTexas law DOES allow the Governor to request the Board of Pardons and Paroles to determine if a person should be granted a pardon,\u201d Abbott continued. \u201cI have made that request and instructed the Board to expedite its review. I look forward to approving the Board\u2019s pardon recommendation as soon as it hits my desk.
