McConnell emphasized that Biden is the only one who can avoid a default and urged him to accept the reality of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/impossible-gop-picked-up-seats-in-house-picked-up-state-legislatures-picked-up-governorship-held-the-senate-but-sniffy-joe-won-not-a-chance\/\" title=\"IMPOSSIBLE: GOP Picked Up Seats in House, Picked Up State Legislatures, Picked Up Governorship, Held the Senate -- But Sniffy Joe Won?... NOT A CHANCE\">divided government<\/a> and be ready to compromise.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This can only be solved by the one person in America who can sign something into law and by the majority of the opposite party, in divided government,&#8221; McConnell told reporters on Tuesday. &#8220;Hopefully that&#8217;s the direction in which we were headed now because we&#8217;re running out of time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>McConnell made the appeal beside McCarthy, who said negotiations with Biden during a meeting Tuesday afternoon didn&#8217;t go far. McCarthy, unlike McConnell, didn&#8217;t immediately rule out a default but cast himself as unable to affect the result either way.<\/p>\n<h3>Risks of Defaulting on National Debt<\/h3>\n<p>The United States risks defaulting on its debts if lawmakers can&#8217;t come to a deal soon. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the country could default by June 1 if the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/even-with-full-control-of-government-democrats-massive-wish-list-is-stalling\/\" title=\"Even With Full Control Of Government, Democrats\u2019 Massive Wish List Is Stalling\">debt ceiling<\/a> isn&#8217;t raised.<\/p>\n<h3>McConnell&#8217;s Message to Biden<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Accept the reality of a divided government<\/li>\n<li>Be ready to compromise<\/li>\n<li>Recognize that he is the only one who can avoid a default<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;The United States is not going to default. It never has and it never will,&#8221; McConnell continued. &#8220;However, elections have consequences. We now have divided government; we didn\u2019t have divided government last year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy, on the other hand, said, &#8220;I&#8217;ve done everything in my power to make sure it will not default. We have passed a bill that raised the debt limit. Now, I haven&#8217;t seen that in the Senate. So, I don\u2019t know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s time for Biden to step up and negotiate with McCarthy to avoid a default on the national debt.
