Jean Carroll, a 79-year-old former columnist, and later defaming her while denying her claim that he raped her in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tuesday-afternoon-update-latest-on-tucker-carlson-biden-2024-who-warns-about-sudanese-biolab\/\" title=\"Tuesday Afternoon Update: Latest On Tucker Carlson, Biden 2024, WHO Warns About Sudanese Biolab\">department store <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-bill-would-eliminate-single-sex-spaces-on-college-campuses\/\" title=\"New Bill Would Eliminate Single-Sex Spaces on College Campuses\">dressing room<\/a><\/a> in the 1990s.<\/p>\n<h3>The Verdict<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The jury rejected Carroll\u2019s claims that Trump raped her.<\/li>\n<li>Trump was ordered to pay a total of $5 million to Carroll, $2 million for battery and $3 for defamation.<\/li>\n<li>The jury deliberated for a little over two and a half hours before returning their unanimous verdicts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Carroll claimed that Trump asked her for help selecting a gift for a female friend after he encountered her inside the Bergdorf Goodman department in the mid-1990s. She told the jury that he eventually followed her into a dressing room after he asked her to try some clothes on and that he raped her.<\/p>\n<p>Carroll claimed that the event impacted the rest of her life, saying:\u00a0\u201cIt left me unable to ever have a romantic life again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump attorney Joe Tacopina told jurors in closing arguments that Carroll\u2019s claims were not substantiated by the facts of the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe facts in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-jury-rules-trump-committed-battery-on-e-jean-carroll-defamed-her\/\" title=\"Trump found guilty of battery and defamation against E. Jean Carroll by jury.\">evidence made plain<\/a> here that E. Jean Carroll\u2019s story is not worthy of your belief, not even close,\u201d he said. \u201cHer story \u2013 and it\u2019s just that, a story \u2013 is not true, she was not raped at Bergdorf Goodman\u2019s. She was not defamed by being called out on making up that story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judge Lewis Kaplan told the jurors they could identify themselves to the public if they wanted to now that the case was over but urged them not to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy advice to you is not to identify yourselves. Not now and not for a long time,\u201d Kaplan said. \u201cIf you\u2019re one who elects to speak to others and to identify yourselves to others, I direct you not to identify anyone else who sat on this jury. Each of you owes that to the other whatever you decided for yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump responded to the ruling on social media, writing: \u201cI HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHO THIS WOMAN IS.
