The project, dubbed &#8220;CA vs. Hate,&#8221; was conceived as California&#8217;s response to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/china-appears-to-warn-extended-lockdowns-are-coming-nationwide\/\" title=\"China Appears to Warn Extended Lockdowns Are Coming Nationwide\">nationwide spate<\/a> of anti-Asian violence. It was launched after a 2021 bill by Democratic lawmakers mandated the state to create an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-nadler-pulls-house-democrats-covid-19-hate-crimes-act-from-consideration\/\" title=\"Rep. Nadler Pulls House Democrats\u2019 \u2018COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act\u2019 From Consideration\">online reporting system<\/a> for &#8220;victims and witnesses to report a hate incident against any group in a safe, anonymous manner, particularly those who may face language or cultural barriers or are undocumented.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>What is a Hate Act?<\/h3>\n<p>The Newsom administration defines a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-no-glory-for-hate-act-seeks-to-ban-trump-namesake-restrict-burial\/\" title=\"Democrats\u2019 \u2018No Glory For Hate Act\u2019 Seeks To Ban Trump Namesake, Restrict Burial\">hate act<\/a> vaguely as &#8220;a hostile expression or action that may be motivated by bias against another person&#8217;s actual or perceived identity.&#8221; Examples include derogatory name-calling, bullying, hate mail, and refusing service, according to the website.<\/p>\n<h3>What Will the Hotline Do?<\/h3>\n<p>It&#8217;s unclear what the hotline will do. Potential callers are assured that the state will only involve police if specifically requested\u2014the hotline&#8217;s primary goals, according to its website, are finding &#8220;help&#8221; for people and communities and gathering data about hate incidents and crime. &#8220;Reporting will stop the normalization of hate in our communities, and ensure impacted individuals get the help they need,&#8221; the CA vs. Hate website says.<\/p>\n<h3>Will Law Enforcement Be Involved?<\/h3>\n<p>The state promises that law enforcement will not be involved unless specifically requested by the caller. Special attention is paid to illegal immigrants. &#8220;You do not need to disclose your immigration status when you report with California vs Hate,&#8221; the website says. &#8220;Hotline services are provided for free, regardless of immigration status.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>What Are the Implications for Civil Rights?<\/h3>\n<p>Some have criticized the hotline, calling it &#8220;insane&#8221; and questioning its implications for civil rights. Julie Hamill, a Los Angeles attorney who has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/newsom-launches-hate-hotline-for-californians-to-report-attacks-on-their-actual-or-perceived-identities\/\" title=\"Newsom introduces 'Hate' hotline for reporting identity-based attacks in California.\">fought local pandemic mandates<\/a> in court, said, &#8220;Anything more than that is too horrifying to imagine. Are we going to get knocks on our door from the California Department of Civil Rights because of a mean tweet? Is this going to be a place for students to report teachers and professors who don&#8217;t toe the party line on thorny political issues?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite the criticism, Newsom&#8217;s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, helped unveil CA vs. Hate at an event late last week.
