In an interview with CNN, McConnell admitted that he&#8217;s been working hard to avoid repeating the mistakes of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/three-more-house-dems-retire-ahead-of-2022-midterms-including-key-centrist-leader\/\" title=\"Three More House Dems Retire Ahead of 2022 Midterms, Including Key Centrist Leader\">2022 midterm election cycle<\/a>, where a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cook-political-report-shifts-eight-governors-races-toward-gop\/\" title=\"Cook Political Report Shifts Eight Governor\u2019s Races Toward GOP\">favorable political environment<\/a> did not transfer at the ballot box, resulting in a 51-49 Senate Democratic majority.<\/p>\n<h3>Recruiting Candidates in Key Senate Races<\/h3>\n<p>McConnell has been working for months to recruit candidates to run in key Senate races. He recently landed a major recruit in West Virginia after Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV) jumped into the race for Sen. Joe Manchin\u2019s (D-WV) seat. McConnell is also working to recruit candidates in Pennsylvania and Montana. However, he admitted that Republicans are still assessing the situation in Wisconsin and Nevada, where it&#8217;s unclear whether the GOP wants to invest resources in those states.<\/p>\n<h3>Arizona Republicans Skeptical of Kari Lake&#8217;s Senate Run<\/h3>\n<p>The landscape in Arizona is growing extremely unpredictable in what is expected to be a three-way race for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mcconnell-fears-republicans-could-screw-this-up-and-lose-the-senate-in-2024\/\" title=\"McConnell worries GOP may lose Senate in 2024.\">general election seat held<\/a> by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ). McConnell emphasized that Republicans will likely wait to see what happens in the primary in Arizona before they decide to engage. Former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is considering running, while Republican Blake Masters and Abe Hamadeh are still considering a run. Karrin Taylor Robson and Republican businessman Jim Lamon are also potential candidates.<\/p>\n<h3>Assessing the Situation in Arizona<\/h3>\n<p>Progressives are supporting Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), who announced he&#8217;s running as a Democrat. Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb became the first Republican to enter the race last month.
