Kutter Crawford of the Boston Red Sox and Matt Strahm of the Philadelphia Phillies refused to leave the field after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-womens-soccer-team-kneels-for-anthem-wears-black-lives-matter\/\" title=\"US Women's Soccer Team Kneels for Anthem, Wears 'Black Lives Matter'\">national anthem<\/a>, instead staring each other down. The two pitchers, who were teammates in Boston last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/two-mlb-pitchers-ejected-facing-fines-for-stunt-following-national-anthem\/\" title=\"2 MLB pitchers ejected, fined for post-anthem stunt.\">apparently goaded<\/a> each other into the stunt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZero of it was planned,\u201d Strahm told WEEI\u2019s Rob Bradford. \u201cJust, anthem was over, and I looked across, and Kutter kind of gave me a grin, and I knew exactly what that grin meant, so [I] just stood there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Red Sox Manager Alex Cora said both players ignored orders to get off the field.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(The umpire) gave them a warning and they stayed there and they got thrown out of the game,\u201d Red Sox Manager Alex Cora said later. \u201cBoth of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>The Consequences<\/h3>\n<p>Ejections come with automatic fines in Major League Baseball. Those fines are even steeper if a player who is on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/counting-down-the-7-worst-contracts-in-mlb-history\/\" title=\"Counting Down The 7 Worst Contracts In MLB History\">injured list<\/a> gets thrown out of a game. Crawford is on the injured list with a strained hamstring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you get thrown out and you\u2019re on the IL, you get crushed,\u201d Cora said.<\/p>\n<p>The amounts the players will be fined have not yet been announced.<\/p>\n<p>Crawford, 27, is in his third year and earns a salary of $730,000, according to baseballreference.com. Strahm, 31, is in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/becky-hammon-doesnt-want-an-nba-team-to-check-a-box-in-hiring-her-as-head-coach\/\" title=\"Becky Hammon Doesn\u2019t Want An NBA Team To \u2018Check A Box\u2019 In Hiring Her As Head Coach\">eighth season<\/a> and earns more than 10 times as much as his pal.
