Defend Governor Ron DeSantis<\/h2>\n<h3>Leaked Videos from DeSantis\u2019 Debate Prep in 2018<\/h3>\n<p>Florida Republican Reps. Matt Gaetz and Byron Donalds, who both endorsed former President Donald Trump\u2019s 2024 bid for the White House, rushed to defend Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Sunday after someone leaked videos from DeSantis\u2019 debate prep in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI ran the Desantis Debate Prep in 2018. Though I prefer Trump for President (bigly), the release of these videos by the person operating the camera is disloyal hackery that I do not abide,\u201d Gaetz wrote on Twitter. \u201cStaffers who leak on the candidates they\u2019ve done work for deserve the reputations they get.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t say anything wrong,\u201d Gaetz continued. \u201cStill doesn\u2019t make this leak honorable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Donalds also acknowledged that he was on DeSantis\u2019 debate prep, adding: \u201cThese tapes should not have been leaked. It&#8217;s low class. https:\/\/t.co\/zNClyHn0iL<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Byron Donalds (@ByronDonalds) May 7, 2023<\/p>\n<h3>DeSantis\u2019 Response to Potential Debate Question<\/h3>\n<p>Many online argued that the video clips, which were leaked in an apparent attempt to damage DeSantis, actually made DeSantis look good as he spoke about wanting to be careful about what he said because he did not want to alienate Trump supporters.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis made the remarks in response to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/matt-gaetz-byron-donalds-rush-to-defend-desantis-after-2018-debate-prep-leaked-desantis-was-right\/\" title=\"Gaetz and Donalds defend DeSantis over leaked 2018 debate prep, saying he was right.\">potential debate question<\/a> he was asked: \u201cIs there any issue upon which you disagree with President Trump?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have to figure out how to do this,\u201d DeSantis responded. \u201cObviously there is because, I mean, I voted contrary to him in the Congress. I have to frame it in a way that\u2019s not going to piss off all his voters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis said in the clip that his response would be that he did \u201cwhat I think is right\u201d and that he \u201csupports [Trump\u2019s] agenda in terms of what he\u2019s been able to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I have a disagreement, I talk to him in private,\u201d DeSantis added.<\/p>\n<h3>DeSantis\u2019 Response to False Accusations<\/h3>\n<p>DeSantis said in the clip that he wanted to stay away from taking nasty \u201cdigs\u201d at people because he did not think that they worked and he thought that made him look like an \u201ca**h***.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In another clip, DeSantis said that he wished he had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fiona-hill-putin-scored-important-win-in-biden-summit\/\" title=\"Fiona Hill: Putin scored important win in Biden summit\">pushed back harder<\/a> against the media\u2019s false claim that DeSantis made a racist remark to his then Democratic opponent Andrew Gillum \u2014 who would later face a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jake-tapper-notes-hunter-biden-investigation-lara-trump-fires-glad-you-finally-figured-that-out\/\" title=\"Jake Tapper Notes Hunter Biden Investigation; Lara Trump Fires: \u2018Glad You Finally Figured That Out\u2019\">federal criminal investigation<\/a> and be found in a hotel with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/disgraced-florida-pol-andrew-gillums-top-aides-behind-multimillion-dollar-weed-initiative\/\" title=\"Disgraced Florida Pol Andrew Gillum\u2019s Top Aides Behind Multimillion-Dollar Weed Initiative\">gay male escort<\/a> who overdosed on meth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did such a horrible job of pushing back on all these stupid stories from the beginning,\u201d DeSantis said, adding that his response to the accusation needed to be aggressive.<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz said in the video that he thought that DeSantis was coming in \u201ctoo hot\u201d on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt deserves to be hot!\u201d DeSantis exclaimed.<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz responded to the leak of the video on Twitter, writing: \u201cDeSantis was right in his reaction to my advise on this. Idk why the leaker here thought they were hurting him.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>DeSantis\u2019 Remarks on Gillum<\/h3>\n<p>The accusation that DeSantis said something racist came after he made the following remarks during a Fox News interview:<\/p>\n<p>Florida elections are always competitive, and this is a guy who, although he\u2019s much too liberal for Florida, I think he\u2019s got huge problems with how he\u2019s governed Tallahassee, he is an articulate spokesman for those far-left views, and he\u2019s a charismatic candidate. I watched those Democrat debates, and none of that is my cup of tea, but he performed better than those other people there. So we\u2019ve got to work hard to make sure that we continue Florida going in a good direction, let\u2019s build off the success we\u2019ve had on Governor Scott, the last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-scott-opposes-democrat-tax-and-spend-policies\/\" title=\"Sen. Scott opposes Democrat tax and spend policies\">huge tax increases<\/a> and bankrupting the state. That\u2019s not going to work.<\/p>\n<p>Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro mocked the idea that DeSantis\u2019 remarks had anything to do with race, noting that DeSantis had actually said nice things about Gillum as a person and had only attacked his policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGillum, of course, is black. The phrase \u2018monkey this up\u2019 immediately generated accusations of \u2018dog whistling\u2019 from DeSantis \u2014 the implication that DeSantis was engaging in a subtle form of racism, telling Floridians not to vote for the black candidate,\u201d Shapiro wrote. \u201cYes, in the midst of praising Gillum as a highly competent and articulate candidate, DeSantis supposedly just decided to remind closet racists that Gillum is black by using a phrase everyone understands to mean \u2018mess things up.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, DeSantis didn\u2019t say that Floridians shouldn\u2019t \u201c\u2018monkey this up\u2019 by voting for black candidate,\u201d Shapiro continued. \u201cHe said Floridians shouldn\u2019t \u2018monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Florida Republican Reps.
