The DCEU director said as much on a recent podcast appearance where he discussed the dark tone he desired for DC cinema and the resistance he met from Warner Bros. His concepts were bleak and they wanted a funnier, lighter mood.<\/p>\n<p> Aquaman helps fight a revived Superman in Justice League (2017), Warner Bros. Entertainment<\/p>\n<p>  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRELATED:\u00a0Netflix Reveals Over 60% Of Their Catalog Led By Women, Proving Hollywood Values Ideology Over Art<\/p>\n<p>  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSnyder\u2019s appearance was on the podcast run and hosted by Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joseph Russo \u2014 who would know a thing or two about high-concept comic book cinema and about dealing with a major studio \u2014 and he explained his quest with screenwriter Chris Terrio to develop ideas teased in Batman v Superman and get what he was pushing for in Justice League.<\/p>\n<p>  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tTheir vision focused heavily on the Knightmare reality and Batman\u2019s survival in that apocalyptic No Man\u2019s Land. \u201cJustice League was Chris Terrio and I. After [Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice] we had talked about what Justice League would be\u2026 It\u2019s called \u2018Dawn of Justice,\u2019 right?\u201d Snyder said, which was a hint of where things were headed. \u201cJustice League was where we were going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cI believe we had an outline\u00a0 for Justice League that we just kind of generated while we were writing \u2018Batman versus Superman\u2019 because we wanted to be sure we were supporting this long look with what we were writing,\u201d the director explained.<\/p>\n<p>  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRELATED:\u00a0Zack Snyder Reveals He \u201cPlayed Around\u201d With The Idea Of Having The DCEU Amazonians Descend From Kryptonians<\/p>\n<p>  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cAnd there\u2019s all this weirdness in Batman v Superman anyway that eventually would make its way into Justice League that I was really adamant about \u2014 you know, post-apocalyptic, or any of that stuff, I was really like, \u2018I really want to do this,\u2019\u201d he continued. \u201cWhen Darkseid destroys Earth,\u201d there\u2019d be ten years without civilization when Batman becomes a Mad Max-type character. \u201cLike what is Batman in Road Warrior?\u2018\u2019<\/p>\n<p>  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThat was \u201ca big thing\u201d Snyder wanted \u201cto get to\u201d but the script was too dark and weird for WB upon review. Then came the call to dial things back. \u201cI\u2019ll be honest. What happened with Justice League is [\u2026] the original script was much darker and weirder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cAnd then when Batman v Superman came out \u2014 and the studio was like, \u2018It\u2019s not funny enough. People want funnier movies. They want funny stuff in it\u2019 \u2014 we did go back and lightened the movie overall,\u201d Snyder recalled.<\/p>\n<p> Bruce (Ben Affleck) sees The Flash (Ezra Miller) in a vision in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)<\/p>\n<p>  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhile he and Terrio went back and made the adjustments Warner Bros. wanted, Synder admits that he \u201cpreserved some of the more intense stuff\u201d to keep a modicum of the tone intact, and in case the studio maybe wanted the original material eventually. A lot of it made it into The Snyder Cut on HBO Max, but not everything. \u201cMy cut of Justice League is a sort of in-between,\u201d the director said.<\/p>\n<p>  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cBut we had this other script,\u201d Snyder revealed. \u201cI think in the original script, Lois and Batman got together briefly. And there was like this whole other thing that everyone was like, \u2019Oh my God, you can\u2019t do that.&#8217;\u201d Fans agree with that declaration of apprehension especially now after what he had pitched for Wonder Woman and the Amazons came to light.<\/p>\n<p> Shazam (Zachary Levi) meets Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) in Shazam! It might be that Snyder and Terrio aren\u2019t renowned for their comedy. As the former stated, \u201cSo, we had done the changes for the studio and \u2014 I mean, I\u2019ll be frank \u2014 Chris and I are not the funniest guys in the world. We\u2019re not like awesome joke writers. I\u2019m just 100% honest about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHowever, for Justice League, they found an interesting way around their deficiencies through one performer. \u201cAnd we had Ezra [Miller]. And Ezra\u2019s pretty funny,\u201d Snyder said. \u201cThat was kind of his role to be the Flash, and kind of be young, and kind of be a little irreverent and not quite understanding, you know, and kind of like in awe of Batman and Superman. And he did a great job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) attempts to kick start his powers in The Flash (2023), Warner Bros. Discovery<\/p>\n<p>  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEven in The Snyder Cut Ezra Miller made a noticeable difference as far as levity, though not to the degree seen in the theatrical cut that is the studio\u2019s preferred canon.
