Chopra said the routine procedure cost her three acting jobs and made her question her identity.<\/p>\n<h3>The Botched Surgery<\/h3>\n<p>The Indian star said she experienced a \u201clingering head cold,\u201d and the doctor recommended surgery to have a polyp removed. But then, \u201cthis thing happens, and my face looks completely different, and I went into a deep, deep depression,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Chopra went into detail about the experience in her 2020 memoir, \u201cUnfinished.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile shaving off the polyp, the doctor also accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed. When it was time to remove the bandages and the condition of my nose was revealed, Mom and I were horrified. My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn\u2019t me anymore,\u201d she wrote, per ET Online.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>The Aftermath<\/h3>\n<p>The \u201cCitadel\u201d star said the media dubbed her \u201cPlastic Chopra\u201d following the botched surgery. I might be flawed, but I am me.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Rebuilding Confidence<\/h3>\n<p>Chopra told Stern she thought her career \u201cwas over before it started.\u201d But then her dad convinced her to get corrective surgery.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was terrified of that, but he was like, \u2018I will be in the room with you.\u2019 He held my hands through it and helped me build back my confidence,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chopra also credited Bollywood director Anil Sharma with helping her restart her career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was supposed to play this lead, and I was shifted to a supporting character. [Sharma] was very kind,\u201d she told Stern. \u201cHe, while the tide was against me, said, \u2018It will be a small part but give it your all.\u2019 And I did.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Conclusion<\/h3>\n<p>Chopra&#8217;s story is a reminder that even celebrities can struggle with self-image and the pressure to look a certain way.
