They agreed that time is of the essence.<\/p>\n<h3>Building Smaller Satellites<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cThe trick is to quit building big,\u201d said Frank Calvelli, assistant secretary of the Air Force for space acquisition and integration. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-cotton-details-plan-to-cut-chinese-investment-in-hollywood\/\" title=\"Sen. I think it\u2019s going to unlock things we haven\u2019t even considered yet,\u201d said John F. Plumb, assistant secretary of defense for space policy. He emphasized the need for more tolerance for failures to ensure that rapid development isn\u2019t derailed.<\/p>\n<h3>Overclassification<\/h3>\n<p>Lawmakers and officials also discussed overclassification as another barrier to speedy innovation at the bleeding edge of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/china-and-russia-agree-to-build-joint-moon-base\/\" title=\"China and Russia Agree to Build Joint Moon Base\">space technology<\/a>. Plumb said that he and his colleagues were collaborating with the intelligence community to eliminate \u201clegacy systems\u201d that hamper cooperation on space defense.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) asked Gen. David D. Thompson, vice chief of space operations for Space Force, whether Washington is developing something related to space defense that\u2019s akin to the \u201cFive Eyes\u201d intelligence linking the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<h3>Space-Related Spending<\/h3>\n<p>The Pentagon wants $33.3 billion in space-related spending, while the U.S. Space Force wants $30 billion, up $3.7 billion from its enacted budget for fiscal 2023.
