Speaking with Esquire about his upcoming role in the miniseries White House Plumbers, which chronicles the Watergate scandal, Harrelson said that his past experience of canvassing for the Republican Party informed his performance as E. Howard Hunt.<\/p>\n<h3>Understanding Conservative Paranoia<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cWoody, in your youth you canvassed for the Republican party. Went to the same college as Mike Pence. Did those experiences help you understand the paranoia Hunt was feeling?\u201d Esquire asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand it. And there\u2019s still a fear of communism. We still loathe Russia. There\u2019s still all the concern about the liberal agenda. I get how this mentality develops. I\u2019m really, basically, a little bit of both,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are things that the liberals do that I think, <strong>What fucking idiots<\/strong>. And then there\u2019s also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/student-suspended-from-education-program-for-saying-a-man-is-a-man-a-woman-is-a-woman\/\" title=\"Student Suspended From Education Program For Saying, \u2018A Man Is A Man, A Woman Is A Woman\u2019\">conservative ideology<\/a> that strikes me as odd. I consider myself, really, an anarchist,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you mean that you believe in no government? Or is it that you do believe in government but you don\u2019t like either side?\u201d Esquire inquired.<\/p>\n<p>Harrelson said he would probably qualify more as a libertarian due to the government\u2019s failure to help people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never see government work. It always seems to be working for the people who got you there. It\u2019s businessmen working for bigger businessmen,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s not businessmen working for their constituents. I think government just usually sucks\u2026am I wrong? Even the social programs, they do it reluctantly, and they\u2019re just always trying to gobble back what they can from the social programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Skewering Coronavirus Lockdowns and Vaccine Mandates<\/h3>\n<p>The actor also discussed his famous monologue from Saturday Night Live earlier this year where he skewered the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/amazing-congress-got-paid-their-full-salary-of-130k-for-9-months-while-they-argued-about-giving-every-american-600-of-their-own-money\/\" title=\"AMAZING! Harrelson said he didn\u2019t care if it sparked backlash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, people told me it was, shall we say, \u2018trending.\u2019 No, I don\u2019t look at that shit,\u201d he said. \u201cI feel like, \u2018I said it on SNL.\u2019 I don\u2019t need to go further with it [pause]\u2026other than to say \u2014 well, no, I won\u2019t. Never mind. That\u2019s enough\u2026 But it don\u2019t change my life one bit. Not one bit, if the mainstream media wants to have a go at you, right?
