I find it really insulting to work my whole life as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-please-pardon-jon-woods-a-victim-of-process-crimes-like-michael-flynn\/\" title=\"President Trump, Please Pardon Jon Woods, a Victim of Process Crimes Like Michael Flynn\">singer-songwriter<\/a> and diminish it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>The Lawsuit<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gaye\u2019s estate accused Sheeran of copying the iconic 1973 single \u201cLet\u2019s Get It On\u201d for his Grammy-winning hit, \u201cThinking Out Loud.\u201d The trial began Monday in New York.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cDid you copy anything from \u2018Let\u2019s Get it On\u2019 when you wrote \u2018Thinking Out Loud?\u2019\u201d Farkas asked the musician outright during the trial, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/05\/01\/ed-sheeran-im-done-if-found-liable-in-marvin-gaye-lets-get-it-on-copyright-lawsuit\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">per<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> The New York Post.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cNo,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The \u201cShape of You\u201d composer also performed parts of the song along with multiple Van Morrison songs, including \u201cTupelo Honey\u201d and \u201cCrazy Love,\u201d on the stand. His \u201cThinking Out Loud\u201d co-writer Amy Wadge took Sheeran\u2019s side, claiming the song they came up with sounded more similar to Morrison\u2019s work than it did to Gaye\u2019s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Sheeran&#8217;s Defense<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Farkas previously argued that the four-chord progression in questions was very basic and that \u201cno one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ed-sheeran-testifies-in-copyright-case-wouldve-been-an-idiot-to-openly-flaunt-stealing-lets-get-it-on\/\" title=\"Ed Sheeran Testifies In Copyright Case: \u2018Would\u2019ve Been An Idiot\u2019 To Openly Flaunt Stealing \u2018Let\u2019s Get It On\u2019\">owns basic musical building blocks<\/a>.\u201d Sheeran\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-trump-campaign-takes-fight-over-pennsylvania-election-and-mail-in-ballot-laws-to-us-supreme-court\/\" title=\"NEW: Trump Campaign Takes Fight Over Pennsylvania Election and Mail-In Ballot Laws to US Supreme Court\">legal team wrote<\/a> in an earlier written filing, \u201cThe two songs share versions of a similar and unprotectable chord progression that was freely available to all songwriters.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sheeran has been sued for copyright infringement before. A judge ruled in 2022 that the singer\u2019s single \u201cShape of You\u201d was not a copy of Sami Switch\u2019s song \u201cOh Why.\u201d The musician also got sued but settled out of court over accusations of plagiarism with his 2016 single \u201cPhotograph.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Sheeran&#8217;s Frustrations<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The \u201cBad Habits\u201d singer previously expressed frustrations about these types of lawsuits in 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s really damaging to the songwriting industry. There\u2019s only so many notes and very few chords used in pop music,\u201d Sheeran said during a video post he shared on Instagram.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cCoincidence is bound to happen if 60,000 songs are being released every day on Spotify. That\u2019s 22 million songs a year, and there\u2019s only 12 notes that are available. I\u2019m not an entity. I\u2019m not a corporation. I\u2019m a human being. I\u2019m a father. I\u2019m a husband. I\u2019m a son.
