Version: 4.0.47--><h2>Secretary of State Antony Blinken Denies Soliciting Letter Suggesting Hunter Biden Laptop Story Was Russian Disinformation<\/h2>\n<p>Secretary of State <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/antony-blinken\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Antony Blinken<\/a> has denied soliciting a letter signed by 51 former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/blinken-denies-asking-for-hunter-biden-laptop-letter\/\" title=\"Blinken denies requesting letter about Hunter Biden's laptop.\">intelligence officials suggesting<\/a> that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/hunter-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hunter Biden<\/a> laptop story could be part of a Russian disinformation operation just weeks before the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/2020-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2020 election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>The Controversy<\/h3>\n<p>The topic came up after the GOP-led\u00a0House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees disclosed portions of a transcribed interview in which former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell talked about putting together the letter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/republicans-start-calling-for-blinken-to-resign-over-hunter-biden-laptop-story\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">following a conversation<\/a> with Blinken in October 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith regard to that letter, I didn\u2019t \u2013 it wasn\u2019t my idea, didn\u2019t ask for it, didn\u2019t solicit it,\u201d Blinken said during a Monday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/secretary-state-blinken-denies-role-hunter-biden-russian-disinfo-letter-wasnt-my-idea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview with Fox News<\/a>. \u201cAnd I think the testimony that the former deputy director of the CIA, Mike Morrell, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/blinken-denies-role-in-hunter-biden-russian-disinfo-letter\/\" title=\"Blinken Denies Role in Hunter Biden Russian Disinfo Letter\">put forward confirms<\/a> that.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Secretary of State Antony Blinken denies that he asked for the letter to be written claiming the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian Disinformation and when asked if he accepts that the laptop isn\u2019t Russian Disinformation, he says \u201cI\u2019m not engaging in politics\u201d. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2spkML1B9M\">pic.twitter.com\/2spkML1B9M<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ALX \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@alx) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alx\/status\/1653201136357191686?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 2, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>The Letter<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0October 19, 2020, letter signed by 51 intelligence veterans said the laptop\u2019s alleged contents have \u201call the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.\u201d After\u00a0POLITICO, the news outlet that first reported the statement, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/10\/19\/hunter-biden-story-russian-disinfo-430276\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published a headline<\/a> that said the former intelligence officials were claiming the story was \u201cRussian disinfo,\u201d then-candidate Joe Biden, Hunter\u2019s father, used the statement to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house-gop-demand-records-from-ex-intel-officials-about-hunter-biden-laptop-letter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cast doubt on the laptop story<\/a> during one of his debates with then-President Donald Trump weeks before the election.<\/p>\n<h3>The Investigation<\/h3>\n<p>The laptop became a subject of interest after the New York Post <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/10\/14\/email-reveals-how-hunter-biden-introduced-ukrainian-biz-man-to-dad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">began reporting<\/a> on details of Hunter Biden\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gravy-train-keeps-rolling-for-second-stepdaughter-ella-emhoff\/\" title=\"Gravy Train Keeps Rolling for Second Stepdaughter Ella Emhoff\">shady business dealings<\/a> and personal life that it contained.\u00a0Over the past two years, many of the contents of the laptop, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/04\/02\/politics\/hunter-biden-laptop\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seized by the FBI<\/a>, have been <a class=\"c-link c-link--focus-visible\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2022\/03\/30\/hunter-biden-laptop-data-examined\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2022\/03\/30\/hunter-biden-laptop-data-examined\/\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\" data-remove-tab-index=\"true\">analyzed and shown to be authentic<\/a>. Meanwhile, Sens. Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) have accused Blinken of providing false testimony to Congress regarding his communications with Hunter Biden over the years.
