A group of candidates spoke recently at an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/philadelphia-mayoral-candidates-promise-to-get-tough-on-crime\/\" title=\"Philly Mayoral Candidates Vow to Crack Down on Crime.\">open house event aiming<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/americas-avengers\/\" title=\"America\u2019s Avengers\">provide solutions<\/a> to rising crime and poverty in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Eleven Democrats and one Republican are vying to become the 100<sup>th<\/sup> mayor of Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/la-democrats-are-buying-their-way-to-leadership-and-practicing-voter-suppression-says-mayoral-candidate-craig-greiwe\/\" title=\"LA Democrats Are \u2018Buying Their Way\u2019 To Leadership And Practicing \u2018Voter Suppression,\u2019 Says Mayoral Candidate Craig Greiwe\">candidates gathered<\/a> at the Community College of Philadelphia on April 29, before the May 16 primary election.<\/p>\n<h3>Rebuilding Philly\u2019s Police Force<\/h3>\n<p>Among them, Jeff Brown, owner of a supermarket chain, told The Epoch Times that he would rebuild the police force to reduce the city\u2019s crime rate.<\/p>\n<p>Brown, a Democrat, is one of only two non-politicians on the ballot. A fourth-generation grocer, he and his family built a chain of 12 union-represented supermarkets that have employed more than 60,000 local residents, often providing their first work experience, according to Brown\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5235976\" style=\"width: 622px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/05\/02\/id5235976-Jeff-Brown-copy-1200x675.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> Mayoral candidate Jeff Brown at the Mayoral Open House Meeting at Community College of Philadelphia on April 29, 2023. (William Huang\/The Epoch Times)<\/figure>\n<p><strong>Brown said:<\/strong> \u201cWe have a very bad crime situation. And we have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/seattle-man-beats-elderly-man-to-death-eight-days-after-being-released-without-bai-for-threatening-to-kill-someone\/\" title=\"Seattle Man Beats Elderly Man to Death Eight Days After Being Released Without Bai for Threatening to Kill Someone\">diminished police force<\/a>. We need to rebuild the police and rebuild our systems to address crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, Philadelphia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phillypolice.com\/crime-maps-stats\">crime rate<\/a> has ranked consistently high among U.S. cities. In 2021, homicide victims in the city reached a milestone of 562, and in 2022 the number of homicide victims was 516, as reported by Philadelphia police.<\/p>\n<p>Its poverty rate is also skyrocketing, at 23.1 percent\u2014more than double the nation\u2019s average.<\/p>\n<p>Brown said a failed educational system is the root cause of the city\u2019s poverty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I think it\u2019s an ineffective K through 12 education. Education should be a place where you learn to make a living,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou figure out what your God-given talents are. And the school should help you to make a living with those talents. That\u2019s one root cause,\u201d Brown said. \u201cIf we missed you in school, we should help you with the workforce system.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Lack of Parenting; Rising Violence<\/h3>\n<p>Candidate Warren Bloom has run for office in Philadelphia six times. In the face of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/burned-by-soft-on-crime-leftist-da-chesa-boudin-san-franciscans-are-headed-for-a-recall\/\" title=\"Burned By Soft-On-Crime Leftist DA Chesa Boudin, San Franciscans Are Headed For A Recall\">rising violent crimes<\/a>, Bloom said that lack of parenting is the main cause of violence.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5235988\" style=\"width: 622px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/05\/02\/id5235988-Warren-Bloom-1200x675.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> Mayoral candidate Warren Bloom at the Mayoral Open House Meeting at Community College of Philadelphia on April 29, 2023. (William Huang\/The Epoch Times)<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cChildren are born into this community without a proper home, without a mother and a father that\u2019s committed to the family \u2026 the family is where everything starts. But it has to be a legitimate family,\u201d Bloom, a Democrat, said. \u201cPut a ring on it, make it legitimate, and make sure your children have the proper upbringing that they need as a moral issue.\u201d He added, \u201cWe need to look for God to solve the problems.
