Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.).<\/p>\n<p>Members of Congress, their spouses, and any dependents would not be allowed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kentucky-officials-make-move-to-purge-woke-investing-from-the-state\/\" title=\"Kentucky Officials Make Move To Purge Woke Investing From The State\">make financial investments<\/a> under the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/fitzpatrick.house.gov\/2023\/5\/fitzpatrick-ocasio-cortez-gaetz-krishnamoorthi-introduce-the-bipartisan-restoring-faith-in-government-act#:~:text=%22The%20Bipartisan%20Restoring%20Faith%20in,'%20stock%20portfolios%2C%20come%20first.\" target=\"_blank\">Bipartisan Restoring Faith in Government Act<\/a>. The bill, however, does not prohibit members and their families from investing in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/aoc-and-gaetz-lead-bipartisan-group-in-unveiling-plan-prohibiting-politicians-from-holding-stocks\/\" title=\"AOC and Gaetz unveil bipartisan plan to ban politicians from owning stocks.\">widely-held investment funds<\/a> or Treasury bonds, and it allows for contributions to the government\u2019s retirement plan.<\/p>\n<p>It is the latest in a line of bills that have been proposed in recent years to address the problem.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe fact that members of the Progressive Caucus, the Freedom Caucus, and the Bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, reflecting the entirety of the political spectrum, can find common ground on key issues like this should send a powerful message to America,\u201d Fitzpatrick said. \u201cWe must move forward on issues that unite us, including our firm belief that trust in government must be restored, and that members of Congress, including their dependents, must be prohibited from trading in stocks while they are serving in Congress and have access to sensitive, inside information. This is basic common sense and basic Integrity 101.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe ability to individually trade stock erodes the public\u2019s trust in government,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez said. \u201cWhen Members have access to classified information, we should not be trading in the stock market on it. It\u2019s really that simple.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cMembers of Congress are spending their time trading futures instead of securing the future of our fellow Americans,\u201d Gaetz said. \u201cWe cannot allow the Swamp to prioritize investing in stocks over investing in our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Members would have 90 days to sell their stock holdings under the proposed legislation, and any blind trust would require permission prior from House ethics officers.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the significant holdings of many members of Congress, both Republican and Democrat, the legislation is likely to encounter opposition. Members are permitted to purchase and sell stocks under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/112\/plaws\/publ105\/PLAW-112publ105.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">STOCK Act<\/a> of 2012, as long as they report their transactions and avoid using insider knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
