He Shot Himself.\">false police report<\/a> after claiming in 2020 that a couple tried to abduct her children.<\/p>\n<p>Kathleen \u201cKatie\u201d Sorensen, 31, was found guilty on one of three misdemeanor counts last week after a jury deliberated for an entire day, the Sonoma County District Attorney\u2019s office announced in <a href=\"https:\/\/da.sonomacounty.ca.gov\/woman-convicted-of-knowingly-making-a-false-report-of-attempted-kidnap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a press release<\/a>. She faces a maximum sentence of six months in jail.<\/p>\n<h3>Justice Served<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cThis verdict will enable us to hold Ms. Sorensen accountable for her crime, while at the same time helping to exonerate the couple that was falsely accused of having attempted to kidnap two young children. The case is also important in that it illustrates the importance of using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/graphic-warning-outrage-as-video-of-girl-9-being-beaten-on-school-bus-goes-viral\/\" title=\"Graphic Warning: Outrage As Video Of Girl, 9, Being Beaten On School Bus Goes Viral\">social media responsibly<\/a>,\u201d District Attorney Carla Rodriguez said.<\/p>\n<p>Sorensen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/white-instagram-influencer-charged-with-lying-after-accusing-latino-couple-of-trying-to-kidnap-her-children\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">went viral<\/a> on social media in December 2020 when she accused a Latino couple of following her around a Michael\u2019s craft store and attempting to kidnap her children. The accused couple, Eduardo and Sadie Martinez, insisted at the time of Sorenson\u2019s allegations that race played a role.<\/p>\n<h3>Family Speaks Out<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cGreat news for us all but mostly for my cousin, Sadie Vega-Martinez and her husband Eddie,\u201d a family member\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/erikamgarcia\/posts\/10226027985949358\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote on Facebook<\/a> after Sorensen was charged in May 2021. \u201cThey were falsely accused by this \u2018influencer\u2019 of trying to kidnap her kids at a local Michaels store. A major allegation! She obviously didn\u2019t know who she was messing with\u2026 my cousin. Prima, I\u2019m so glad you persisted! There absolutely need[s] to be consequences for attention seeking \u2018influencers\u2019 that make up drama for likes and views on social\u2026 Can you imagine this happening to YOU? It totally could. And it\u2019s unreal.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>False Accusations<\/h3>\n<p>Sorensen claimed in an Instagram post that her \u201cchildren were the targets of attempted kidnap.\u201d Fox News\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/california-police-mom-influencer-kidnap-latino\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that Sorensen accused the Martinezes of trying to kidnap her children from the craft store. Sorensen regularly posts on social media about her kids, and her allegations ended up pushing her number of followers on Instagram from 6,000 to more than 80,000.<\/p>\n<h3>Unfounded Claims<\/h3>\n<p>Sorensen reportedly told police the couple followed her as she pushed her children in a stroller in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/influencer-found-guilty-after-falsely-claiming-a-couple-tried-to-kidnap-her-kids\/\" title=\"Influencer Found Guilty After Falsely Claiming A Couple Tried To Kidnap Her Kids\">parking lot heading<\/a> toward her car.
