The Congressional Budget Office projected the proposal would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-led-house-passes-mccarthys-plan-to-raise-debt-limit\/\" title=\"GOP-Led House Passes McCarthy\u2019s Plan To Raise Debt Limit\">slash federal deficits<\/a> by $4.8 trillion over ten years.<\/p>\n<h3>Experts Warn of Default This Summer<\/h3>\n<p>Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen notified Congress in January that the United States had hit the statutory limit of roughly $31.4 trillion and advised that her agency take \u201cextraordinary measures\u201d so the government could continue to pay its bills, but only in the short term. Experts have warned of a default\u00a0this summer that could\u00a0cripple the U.S. economy without a deal to raise the borrowing limit for the federal government,\u00a0which the Treasury Department says Congress has acted upon 78 times since 1960.<\/p>\n<h3>Biden and Democrats Insist on \u201cClean\u201d Debt Ceiling Bill<\/h3>\n<p>President Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats have insisted on a \u201cclean\u201d debt ceiling bill separate from any spending cuts or any policy concessions. In the run-up to the House passing a bill, Biden accused House Republicans of pushing the country to a default \u201cunless I agree to all these wacko notions they have.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Schumer Outlines Ways GOP Plan Would Hurt Americans<\/h3>\n<p>In his letter to colleagues, Schumer outlined various ways he argues the GOP plan would hurt Americans, including by clamping down on federal benefits and damaging the country\u2019s \u201cinternational standing by gutting funding for critical State Department programs and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-plans-hearings-on-reckless-house-gop-debt-ceiling-bill\/\" title=\"Senate Plans Hearings On \u2018Reckless\u2019 House GOP Debt Ceiling Bill\">cutting-edge research facilities<\/a> and sending jobs overseas.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Democrats Will Not Allow Default on America<\/h3>\n<p>The House GOP bill, Schumer wrote, \u201coffers two choices: either default on the debt or default on America, forcing steep cuts to law enforcement, veterans, families, teachers, and kids.
